UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA OUTREACH
CONSORTIUM PARTNERS WITH WORKPLACEDIVERSITY.COM
Preeminent Public Research University
and Employer of 160,000
Continues to Show Non-Wavering Commitment to Diversity
LIVINGSTON, NJ (July 15, 2003) -- WorkplaceDiversity.com,
the career website for recruiters who want to reach
experienced diversity candidates, announced today it
was selected by the University of California Outreach
Consortium, to play a strategic supporting role in the
University of California's
long-standing commitment to workforce diversity. Specifically,
WorkplaceDiversity.com is assisting the University of
California's 10 campuses, 5 medical centers, 3 Department
of Energy national laboratories and the Office of the
President attract and retain diverse talent pools of
individuals through its state-of-the-art, career center
technology and extensive web-based community of over
2,500 information sources.
Founded in 1868, the University of California is today
the employer-of-choice for more than 160,000 staff and
academic employees. A leader in affirmative action/equal
opportunity employment, University President Richard
Atkinson renewed his pledge to the Regents this year
to continue to work towards better gender and minority
representation among University of California faculty
and all campus work environments. The University of
California Outreach Consortium, composed of recruiters
and employment managers throughout the University of
California, is charged with the task of providing and
directing attention to nondiscriminatory employment
efforts, partnerships and public service activities.
Its decision to align with WorkplaceDiversity.com followed
months of research focusing on best-practice diversity
hiring management vehicles, tools and job boards.
"Once our competitive knowledge-sharing was complete,
we unanimously decided to partner with Workplace Diversity.com,"
says Steve Johnson, Co-Chairman, University of California
Outreach Consortium. "We were impressed with the
size of the diversity talent pools in the WorkplaceDiversity.com
database as well as the job board's ongoing branding
efforts, intuitive posting technology, and strategic
relationships with diversity-focused associations and
organizations. Further, WorkplaceDiversity.com has a
knowledgeable staff that really cares about helping
organizations address diversity issues and goals. At
the University of California for example, WorkplaceDiversity.com
is equally committed to helping all 19 locations achieve
the highest standards of social tolerance and cultural
acceptance."
John Bersentes, National Sales Director, WorkplaceDiversity.com,
says of the University of California's far-reaching
commitment to diversity, "Even under constraints
and limited resources, the University of California
remains committed to ensuring that its workforce and
student body population encompass the cultural, racial,
geographical and socioeconomic backgrounds characteristic
of the State of California. WorkforceDiversity.com is
absolutely honored to be helping such a prestigious
institution realize these goals."
Of special note, since 1992 the University of California
has seen an increase in Hispanic and Blacks enter its
workforce. Today, women represent more than 60% of the
total University of California staff and total minority
staff representation has increased to more than 45%.
