The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the Distribution/Warehousing Department by providing 24-hour coverage and supervision of all warehouse Supervisors and functional processes. This role requires strong leadership, accountability, and a commitment to process adherence and continuous improvement. The manager will maintain a properly staffed and trained team that supports warehousing operations while delivering the highest levels of logistics support.

What you'll do as an Operations Manager:
  • Lead and Inspire: Demonstrate strong leadership by setting clear expectations, modeling desired behaviors, and fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Accountability: Hold self and others accountable for achieving operational goals, adhering to company policies, and maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Process Monitoring: Ensure strict adherence to established SOPs and safety regulations across all warehouse functions.
  • Process Improvement: Identify inefficiencies, implement corrective actions, and drive initiatives that enhance productivity and reduce costs.
  • Direct and motivate teammates to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Coordinate investigations of injuries, accidents, and unsafe conditions using company safety standards.
  • Maintain a safe facility, including sanitation programs in compliance with company and governmental standards.
  • Prepare, manage, and benchmark Distribution Center profit and loss statements.
  • Facilitate communication between management and teammates to ensure alignment.
  • Provide training to maintain an efficient and knowledgeable workforce.
  • Assign accountability for tracking and identifying trends in key performance indicators.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work; address complaints and resolve problems.
  • Communicate effectively with company and vendor staff to ensure operational standards are met.
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications you'll bring as an Operations Manager:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field (or equivalent McLane experience).
  • Minimum of 4 years in distribution management and inbound warehousing, preferably in the grocery industry.
  • Proven leadership experience with a background in hiring, training, motivating, and assessing employee performance.
  • Strong accountability mindset with demonstrated ability to enforce standards and deliver results.
  • Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word, and Access PC programs.
  • Ability to analyze processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement improvements.
  • Excellent communication skills for reporting, presenting, and influencing stakeholders.
  • Ability to interpret financial statements and understand cost implications.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions

Work occurs in both office and warehouse environments. Ability to work in warm and cold temperatures (38°F to 110°F; freezer at -10°F). Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, grasp, and reach overhead as needed. Must be able to work long hours and weekends as required by business demands.
