Job Title: Proofreader
Overview
Fidelity is seeking a detail-oriented contract Proofreader to ensure the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of a wide range of marketing materials. This role requires strong attention to detail and involves reviewing content and layout against instructions, verifying facts, maintaining typographical and quality standards, and strict adherence to Fidelity’s style and usage guidelines and design system. Candidates should be familiar with or open to learning to use AI tools such as Jasper to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
Core Proofreading Tasks
- Review documents for overall sense and accuracy, including:
- Facts: Verify phone numbers, URLs, names, titles, trademarks, dates, and service marks, and other detailed information.
- Style: Ensure consistency in fonts, headings, and page layout.
- Language: Check spelling, grammar, punctuation, and typographical standards.
- Validate cross-references, folios, tables of contents, and indexes.
- Confirm proper word, line, and page breaks.
- Adhere to Fidelity’s Content Style Guide, design system and brand guidelines to create consistency across all materials reviewed.
- Flag unclear or awkward phrasing without rewriting content (unless copyediting is requested).
- Help to establish a process for using AI tools such as Jasper in Fidelity’s proofreading/QA practice.
Proofreading assignments may include any of the following:
- Check Edits: Compare layouts against backups; verify factual changes and ensure no copy is dropped during reflow.
- Full document reads: Light copyediting; identify and suggest revisions for run-on sentences, redundancies, and confusing content; recommend improvements for clarity and readability; perform two full reads before file release.
- Proof A vs. B: Conduct word-for-word comparisons between versions, including graphics and images.
- Test Messages: Validate email content against approved PDFs or spec sheets; check links and discrepancies.
- Tech QA: For web pages, verify links and breadcrumbing; for fillable PDFs, confirm field functionality and tab order.
Qualifications
Previous Ad Agency experience preferred
- BA or equivalent preferred (English, Communications).
- Familiarity with—or willingness to learn—AI tools such as Jasper for proofreading and QA.
- 3–5 years of proofreading/copyediting experience in marketing, publishing, or related fields; financial or advertising agency experience is a plus.
- Strong command of English language, grammar, and typographical standards.
- Ability to interpret and apply standard proofreaders’ marks.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
- Comfortable working under tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work with and adhere to established style and brand guidelines.
- Candidate will be required to pass a proofreading test.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to enforce Fidelity’s style and usage guidelines and design system.
