How will you make an impact in this role?
The Product Platforms Architect plays a pivotal role in driving the evolution of product platforms that enable American Express Card Product Management. This position is responsible for developing and executing solutions that align with enterprise objectives, optimize operational processes, and reinforce effective business controls.
The role requires strategic and technical acumen, connecting platform transformation to broader organizational goals. The successful candidate will collaborate across key enterprise partners—including Control Management, the General Counsel’s Office (GCO), 2nd Line Compliance, Technologies, and the GDC Product Owner—to ensure seamless delivery of platform improvements that enhance customer experiences and business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Platform Strategy and Assessment
Evaluate the current product platform landscape to identify inefficiencies, gaps, and opportunities for innovation. Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop detailed action plans for upgrades and feature enhancements aligned with business goals and enterprise strategy.
- Requirements Definition and Implementation Oversight
Gather, document, and prioritize business and technical requirements for platform improvements. Ensure conformance with enterprise standards and collaborate with technology and control management teams to drive implementation and validation.
- Research and Integration Leadership
Lead the evaluation and integration of innovative platform changes. Coordinate pilot programs or proof-of-concept efforts to assess feasibility and impact, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum value to the business.
- Operational Support and Issue Resolution
Act as a subject matter expert for resolving technical and operational issues impacting product platforms and customer experiences. Identify root causes, implement sustainable solutions, and monitor effectiveness through data-driven performance tracking.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration and Program Leadership
Manage cross-functional workstreams to ensure timely delivery of initiatives. Coordinate efforts across product, technology, compliance, and operations teams to remove impediments, maintain timelines, and ensure high-quality releases.
- Stakeholder Documentation and Relationship Management
Maintain a comprehensive record of stakeholders, dependencies, and roles across the product ecosystem. Promote transparency, collaboration, and effective communication across partner teams and leadership groups.
- Controls and Reporting
Establish and maintain robust business controls and reporting mechanisms. Ensure documentation is audit-ready and that leadership receives accurate updates on project progress, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Compliance and Governance Alignment
Partner with KYC, AML, and other enterprise compliance teams to ensure all platform initiatives meet regulatory, risk, and corporate standards. Serve as a key liaison for compliance-related initiatives and ensure continuous alignment with evolving governance requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in techno-functional product management, platform strategy, or enterprise architecture, preferably within American Express or a comparable global financial institution.
- BA in Computer Science, Data Science, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Extensive knowledge of product platforms, including those supporting Card Product Management, Rewards, Servicing, and Customer Data ecosystems.
- Strong understanding of operational processes, control frameworks, and governance structures, with the ability to navigate dependencies between Product, Technologies, Risk, Compliance, and Finance.
- Proven success in designing and implementing large-scale platform solutions that align with enterprise strategies and regulatory expectations.
- Experience leading initiatives in platform modernization, data integration, and process automationwithin American Express or similar environments.
- Solid grasp of risk management, compliance, and control disciplines (including KYC/AML, PCI DSS, and audit readiness).
- Expertise in translating complex business needs into technical requirements that align with AMEX Enterprise Architecture and Delivery standards.
- Excellent analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills, including collaboration with Control Management, GCO, 2nd Line Compliance, and Technology partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with processes and enterprise product and platform management used in AMEX.
- Experience working within Agile delivery models and proficiency with tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and ServiceNow.
- Demonstrated success managing enterprise-level platform transformation programs in complex, matrixed organizations.
- Advanced degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Data Science, Computer Science, System Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually + bonus + benefits
