Job Summary

The Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition is seeking a STEPS Community Outreach Coordinator to support our teaching kitchen initiatives. This temporary position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to strategic initiatives in culinary nutrition, health, and wellness, with a strong emphasis on experiential learning.

The successful candidate will serve as the Staff Advisor to the award-winning Campus Kitchen at the University of Kentucky (CKUK)—a student-powered organization committed to reducing food waste and eliminating food insecurity. CKUK recovers food from campus dining, grocery stores, and farmers markets to prepare nutritious meals for individuals in the Lexington and UK community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily operations of CKUK, including preparation of approximately 200 meals per week
• Supervise and mentor student volunteers and hourly student workers
• Support teaching kitchen programming with campus and community partners

Qualifications:

• Strong management, communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Cooking experience (does not need to be professional) and/or a desire to learn!


This is a temporary, in-person position and the role is ideal for professionals seeking impactful, short-term engagement in culinary nutrition and community-based food systems initiatives.
