General Summary
Provides operational and data support for the Financial Aid team by managing the exchange and management of student financial aid information. Responsible for importing, reviewing, and matching financial aid documents to student records.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage all electronic transmissions, exchanges, and communication with the U.S. Department of Education regarding ISIR loading, processing corrections, solving suspense records, and transmitting Federal Direct Loan data.
- Accurately index and integrate financial aid documents into students' electronic records, ensuring precise document management, audit readiness, and the integrity of each student's financial aid file.
- Serve as a key support resource for the Financial Aid Systems team by assisting with the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of financial aid systems and related processes.
- Support daily system operations, including data imports/exports, monitoring system functionality, and resolving routine issues to ensure accurate and timely processing.
- Prepare and provide scheduled audit reports and/or other specialized reports as required.
- Update the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) with current enrollment status to maintain compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations regarding enrollment reporting.
- Communicate to students and other interested persons regarding available financial aid programs, eligibility requirements, and procedures.
- Provide backup for Service EMU as needed.
- Assist with special projects during peak times, such as canceling loans, recording PLUS denials, etc.
- Adhere to any and all NCAA, Mid-American Conference and Eastern Michigan University policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
- Perform related departmental duties, as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to read, write, interpret instructions, and perform basic arithmetic calculations, typically acquired through the completion of a high school education, is required.
Knowledge of basic accounting principles, business correspondence, and automated office systems, with strong skills in written and interpersonal communication, organization, and problem solving, is required.
The ability to analyze and accurately review large volumes of data to ensure the integrity of computerized databases, and to independently prioritize, organize, and complete work assignments to meet deadlines, is required.
Previous experience providing knowledge and skills in computer systems, use of reporting applications and database systems is necessary.
Experience with Microsoft Office (MS Word, Access, and Excel) is required.
Ability to access and perform moderately complex query functions of databases based on information needs is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of Financial Aid principles, typically acquired through two years of clerical/customer service work experience in an enrollment management-related position is preferred.
Experience with mailroom functions and familiarity with US Postal regulations are preferred.
Additional course work and/or experience equivalent to an Associate's degree is preferred.
Knowledge of the University's Red Flags Rule and Identify Theft Prevention Policy and Procedure.
