AIS (Abbreviated Injury Scale) course, Trauma Registry course, and International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) Trauma Injury Coding course, all within 1 year of hire.



Physical Requirements

The physical requirements of this position include: handling of light-weight objects up to 25 pounds, as well as standing, walking, and sitting for long periods of time.



Shift

Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm; this position is salaried/exempt and may require additional hours per departmental need.



Job Summary

The Trauma Registrar is a data steward in the trauma program, converting complex clinical information into structured data that drives quality improvement, accreditation, research, and clinical practice guideline decisions. This position directly reports to Lead Trauma Registrar and indirectly to the Trauma Program Manager. The Trauma Registrar will comply with all appropriate University of Kentucky Hospital and Trauma Services policies, vision, and values. A minimum of 3 years coding required and trauma registry experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, clinical/therapeutic modalities, ICD10-CM coding, personal computer usage, quality of care audit procedures and ability to retrieve statistical information from a computerized database and compile information into a comprehensive and understandable report. This individual must possess attention to detail and exhibit independence and solid organizational skills in order to accomplish the work.



Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The ideal candidate will have in-depth computer skills to include Microsoft office experience; a strong understanding of coding and registrar processes; and thorough understanding of data analysis. Educational coursework to be completed within one year of hire in order to obtain certifications. Trauma Registrar Certification required within the first 18 months of hire.

Experience in Coding, medical terminology, and electronic medical records. Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) course, Trauma Registry course, and ICD-10 course certifications within 12 months of starting position.
