Position Title:             TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Tutor/Mentor

Employee Status:       Part-Time Grant Funded up to 25 hours a week
Type:                           Hourly rate: $20.00 (tutor/mentor) or $25.00 (tutor/mentor/interpreter)  Reports to:  Executive Director of TRIO Programs
Supervision Exercised: None

Job Summary
Assist students in academic success by meeting with them on a regular basis to clarify material, offer encouragement, and develop study skills. A tutor has demonstrated understanding of and experience in the content area that is tutored. An interpreter provides translation to participants and program staff as needed.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following for Tutor/Mentor
  • Provide both general and course specific instruction for TRiO students in various subject areas.
  • Tutor will provide one-on-one and small group, tutoring sessions to students with disabilities in the TRiO Student Support Services program.
  • Notify students as soon as possible if scheduled meeting must be cancelled or changed.
  • Arrive punctually at scheduled tutoring session.
  • Attend tutor training sessions and meet with TRiO Coordinator to discuss student progress
  • Maintain records of tutoring activities in Blumen.
  • Provide encouragement and support to students to help improve academic performance.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Demonstrate understanding and acceptance of student diversity.
  • Follow the highest standard of ethical conduct as outlined in the RVC employee handbook.
  • Aid in the assessment of TRiO students in the Early Alert Program.
  • Related duties may be assigned.
Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Tutor/Mentor/Interpreter
  • Provide interpretation and translation to participants and program staff.
  • Provide assistance and guidance with translation of program documents used for communication among, students, staff, parents, and community partners.
  • Attend parent/guardian meetings to provide academic and holistic support in a wrap around service
  • Desired languages are Swahili, Arabic, French, Spanish, Korean (other languages considered)

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required. Candidate must be able to work during the day, some nights, and weekends.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience working/tutoring students in higher education or secondary education. Some availability to work in late afternoon or early evening hours is desirable.
