LSC-Houston North Greenspoint is a state-of-the-art, full-service location designed to serve the greater Greenspoint area. Its proximity to local businesses and public transportation has created a location ideal for working and non-traditional students. The facility offers a selection of day, evening and weekend credit courses, including university-transfer courses, certificates, computer/office skills, and developmental studies.

Job DescriptionPURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Continuing Education Instructor, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), provides direction, teaching, and support for the Adult Education and Literacy ESOL course objectives and contributes to the educational environment of Lone Star College and the community. Responsibilities include teaching and advising students, developing curriculum, evaluating and supporting adjunct instructors, assessing or modifying current programs, and coordinating other supports system-wide to ensure students are achieving all instructional goals of ESOL pathways within the Adult Education and Literacy Grant.
This is a temporary, grant-funded position. Continuation of the position from one academic year to the next is dependent upon continued grant funding.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Teaches a variety of courses for English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), English for internationally trained professionals, and career preparation courses for ESOL students at a variety of times and locations
2. Serves as a subject matter expert to develop curriculum, assess/modify current programs, evaluate and support adjunct instructors, and coordinate other cross-institutional support to ensure students are achieving the goals of the Adult Education and Literacy Grant. This includes utilization of an Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) model in El civics courses that support workforce training.
3. Creates engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material
4. Submits required college reports and forms in a timely manner both in college systems and systems utilized by the grant funder, such as the Texas Educating Adults Management System
5. Maintain a course syllabus template for each course, following established institutional and grant guidelines
6. Meets with and advises students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods
7. Evaluates students to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs students in a timely manner of their progress
8. Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community
9. Attends meetings, trainings, and orientations as required
10. Responsible for other reasonable duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
WORK SCHEDULE & CONDITIONS:
· Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general officeequipment
· Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of theposition
· Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safetyhazards
· Hours will vary depending on class time; Instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of classinstruction
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor's degree in English, Education or a closely related field and 2 years of experience teaching ESL or adult education courses
· OR Certification in ESL/ESOL instruction from an accredited institution and 3 years of experience teaching ESL or adult education courses
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bilingual (English/Spanish)
SalaryCommensurate with education, experience and qualifications.
