The Director of the Retail Project Management Office will be responsible for overseeing retail project management activities, collaborating on strategic initiatives, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex software projects to our customer on-time and within budget. As our Director of the Retail PMO you will also be engaged on strategic projects to provide direct Project Management and Project Delivery.

This position will lead other teams at VertexOne to execute multiple project objectives, including deliverables, budget performance, and schedule adherence. They will manage other project or program managers and coordinators and contribute to the maturity and strategic direction of the PMO.

The role needs a highly experienced strategic leader and communicator with a positive "can do" attitude and a demonstrated track record of successfully delivering solutions. Individuals need to take responsibility, be organized, and demonstrate a professional approach to their work.

Essential Duties:

  • Identify and plan projects to achieve business objectives and develop project charters
  • Develop detailed project plans for complex projects ensuring that all tasks are appropriately scheduled (dependency, dates, resources, effort) and aligned with business objectives
  • Identify key stakeholders and manage internal and external expectations
  • Manage resources, communicate responsibilities and ensure accountability to completing deliverables
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure an effective governance model is defined and implemented to ensure project success
  • Manage change requests and control scope
  • Document and manage risks, action items, issues, constraints, assumptions, escalating as appropriate
  • Work through challenges to problem solve, mitigate risk and ensure successful delivery.
  • Identify and negotiate with management to allocate sufficient resources to successfully execute
  • Manage communications across cross-functional teams, executives and external stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the client stakeholders
  • Prepare for and lead Steering Committee meetings
  • Monitor project progress and provide ongoing project status reporting. Escalate issues in a timely manner
  • Identify lessons learned and recommend changes to enhance the successful delivery of projects
  • Champion a standard project management methodology with supporting processes and best practices
  • Work cross-functionally with other departments to mature the organization’s project management capability
  • Manage large projects with a high degree of complexity
  • Create and deliver effective presentations to executives and project management forums
  • May lead a team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators
  • Advanced use of project management tools and dashboards
  • Operate independently and provide strategic guidance for the project management office
  • Up to 25% Travel to client sites

Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of project management; PMP certification preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in program or project management
  • 5+ years of experience in Utilities industry and 3 full lifecycle CIS or ERP implementations desired
  • Proven success managing complex projects or programs in SaaS or tech environments.
  • Highly organized and able to wear multiple hats in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment; a driving force who manages toward clarity and solutions.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Successful track record in setting priorities, shaping processes, managing people and implementing technology
  • Have a strong customer focus
  • Ability to learn quickly and provide value when placed in unfamiliar settings
  • Ability to meet deadlines on aggressive schedules
  • Ability to multi-task and to give and take direction
  • Excellent communicator of ideas both orally and through documents and other visual aids
