Accessibility Technology CoordinatorCampus Title: Accessibility Technology CoordinatorState Job Title: Staff AssistantDepartment: Information and Instructional TechnologyJob Code: HA5600FLSA Status: ExemptFunding: 7115-0100Bargaining Unit: APAJob Type: Professional/ExecutiveTimeframe: 52 WeeksShift: Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm (some evenings and weekends required)Regular Days Off: Saturday and SundaySupervision Received: Reports to the Director of the Center for Instructional Technology (CIT).Supervision Exercised: The Coordinator will train and supervise contract employees in work relating to accessibility within the campus LMS.Salary: $60,000 to $65,000 Annually (salary commensurate with education and experience)General Statement of Duties:The Accessibility Technology Coordinator serves as a member of the CIT online learning training and support team in the Center for Instructional Technology and reports to the Director of the CIT. This position will work closely with faculty, the Banacos Academic Center (Disability Services), and other campus stakeholders to ensure ADA accessibility and Title II compliance for all learning management technology systems used in PLATO/LMS. This position will also work closely with service providers, including learning management systems, streaming services, captioning services, and third-party tool providers to develop processes and workflows by which Westfield State University can make course content accessible. This position will also support the LMS administrator as it pertains to accessibility.Duties and Responsibilities:Duties include but not limited to:Essential:• Establishes and ensures ADA accessibility and Title II compliance for all learning management technology systems used primarily in PLATO/LMS. Assists staff in Banacos Academic Center to actively ensure that course content is fully accessible to students needing accommodations. Works directly with faculty to update inaccessible course content and media.• Manages and coordinates video and audio captioning processes and workflows while fulfilling requests locally or through vendors and ensuring quality of captioned materials.• Works with CIT staff to provide individual and group training for faculty and staff in using software available in PLATO/LMS and about best practices for creating accessible course content in general. Provides individual consulting and troubleshooting to faculty and staff in the Center for Instructional Technology who need assistance in using specialized software and hardware.• Develops and maintains accessibility materials on PLATO website including training materials, how-to videos, and step-by-step tutorial instructions.• Will train and supervise contract employees in work relating to accessibility.• Researches new and emerging technologies and services to ensure compliance with accessibility standards in PLATO/LMS. Remains knowledgeable about regulatory changes, technical advances, and new solutions for accessibility within the LMS.• Assists with establishing priorities and an iterative process for checking and remediating any accessibility barriers.• Required to work some evenings/weekends.Job Requirements:Qualifications:Required:• Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering.• Minimum 2 years' experience with a learning management system (LMS).• Minimum 2 years' experience with making digital content accessible.• Minimum 3 years' experience with Windows and Macintosh operating systems and the Microsoft Office Suite.• Demonstrated experience leading collaborative projects.• Demonstrated knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).• Microsoft Web Development Certification.• CIW Web Design Specialist.• Excellent customer service skills and experience working with a diverse clientele. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated organizational ability. Ability to responsibly manage sensitive and confidential information.Preferred:• Brightspace learning management system experience.• Familiarity with assistive technologies as related to the LMS.• Experience in higher education environment, specifically working directly with faculty as part of the course building or delivery processes.• Microsoft Software Development Certification.• CIW Web Foundation Associate.• Network security experience.Additional Information:Salary:Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
