Part-Time Instructor of English
General Statement of Duties:
The Department of English at Westfield State University invites applications for a Part-Time Instructor to teach undergraduate writing courses during the Fall 2026 semester. The successful candidate may be assigned up to two courses, including ENGL 0101: Composition I and/or ENGL 204: Rhetoric and Research. These courses are offered in person on campus at Westfield State University.

Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Essential:
- Teach up to two sections of undergraduate writing courses, including Composition I and/or Writing and Research
- Develop and facilitate engaging, student-centered learning experiences that support writing development
- Provide timely, constructive feedback on student writing and progress
- Foster an inclusive classroom environment that values diverse perspectives, experiences, and ways of knowing
- Support students in developing critical reading, writing, research, and information literacy skills
- Maintain regular communication with students and respond to student inquiries in a timely manner
- Assess student learning and submit final grades in accordance with university policies and deadlines
Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, Education, or a closely related field
- Evidence of effective teaching and a commitment to undergraduate education
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching first-year writing, composition, research writing, or related courses at the college level
- Familiarity with writing pedagogy that emphasizes process, revision, inquiry, and reflective practice
- Experience supporting students from varied educational backgrounds, including first-generation college students, dual enrollment students, and students transitioning to college-level writing
- Experience incorporating inclusive teaching practices and culturally responsive pedagogies
- Interest in collaborating with colleagues on writing instruction and student success initiatives
