Job Summary

The Academic Advising Department of Jefferson Community and Technical College has an opening for an Advisor. This position will primarily be housed on the Technical Campus with specific days assisting at the Downtown Campuses. The primary responsibilities of the position include academic advising, making referrals to appropriate academic and support services, and engagement with college retention and success initiatives.

Job Duties:

. Other duties include, but are not limited to:
• Maintain caseload of Jefferson students pursuing both Technical and General Education degrees.
• Providing individual advising for students (in-person and virtual) who are enrolled FYE 105/FYE 100 (First Year Experience course)
• Assisting students and faculty, including but not limited to:
o How to navigate Student Center Accounts and Resources
o Self-enrollment training
o Explaining program requirements and course applicability
• Confirming student intended majors and updating as needed.
• Advising first-time students during RAD (Registration & Advising) events.
• Work closely with other departments to develop processes for student outreach, matriculation and retention efforts.
• Collaborate with faculty and divisions.
• Degree Audits for students to aid in Academic and Financial Aid planning
• Offering group advising sessions as needed
• Utilizing retention management software for scheduling, adding advising notes, making appropriate referrals, and reporting
• Navigating students through the Admissions process- ex. basic knowledge of Jefferson application, testing, and FAFSA.
• Assist with the Advising Center email account.
• May require travel to assist with advising on one of Jefferson’s extended campuses
• May require some evening and/or weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (Education, Higher Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field). Candidates should have experience in higher education, preferably at a community college, and should be flexible and have the ability to manage multiple tasks. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Candidates should also have experience and sensitivity working with students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years related experience, or equivalent
