The Opportunity:
Overview:
Do you hold a State of Oregon Electrician, Limited Energy Technician, Class A (LEA) license? Do you have experience with commercial fire alarms, access control, or security systems? Then consider joining Multnomah County’s Facilities and Property Management team as anAlarm Technician!
You'll help keep our 160 County buildings running smoothly. As the go-to person for limited energy systems, you'll tackle tasks independently and collaborate with other teams, contractors, and clients to improve systems and solve problems.
Essential Job Duties:
- Design, layout, install, repair, program and upgrade electronic systems and equipment in accordance with regulations, codes, and the needs of the facility.
- These systems include:
- A) fire detection,
- B) intrusion detection,
- C) access control including employee photo identification, and
- D) other low-voltage systems, such as nurse/jury call systems and duress (panic) alarms.
- These systems include:
- Perform fire alarm inspection, testing and maintenance in accordance with NFPA Chapter 14.
- Create and maintain tracking databases for Countywide alarm system users including remote monitoring and employee photo identification.
- Study and interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Keep accurate records, provide reports of work performed, and document system design and any changes for future work and services.
- Drive a County vehicle during work hours.
The County understands that if you have verifiable technician work experience, programming experience, design capabilities, and repair experience in one of the major areas listed above (A, B or C), other systems experience can be gained after you come to work at Multnomah County.
Operationally Essential Position: Employees who have been designated as operationally essential (“Essential”) are required to report for duty regardless of facility closure or curtailment of some or all County operations. Employees would be eligible to receive up to two (2) saved holidays dependent upon hire date.

To Qualify
We will consider any combination of relevant work experience, volunteering, education, and transferable skills as qualifying unless an item or section is labeled required. Please be clear and specific about how your background is relevant.
Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:
- Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent education
AND
- Three (3) of experience at the journey level working with commercial fire alarm, access control, or security systems including the design, programming, repair, and testing of such systems.(Equivalency 4 years of qualifying training and/or experience).
- Requires a State of Oregon Electrician, Limited Energy Technician, Class A (LEA) License.
- This position requires a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain CJIS Authorization, should a job offer be extended.
Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills: You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates. Please clearly explain on your application how you meet any of the following preferred qualifications/transferable skills.
- Experience in servicing electronic equipment.
- Electronic-related coursework in basic electronics.
- National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification.
- Experience in large, complex, integrated building systems, such as Notifier, Kantech, and DSC.
- Advanced troubleshooting and high-level programming experience.

Additional Information:
This recruitment may be used to fill full-time, part-time, temporary, limited duration and on-call positions.
Type of Position: This hourly union-represented position is eligible for overtime pay.
Work Location: 401 N Dixon St. Portland, OR 97227
Schedule:Monday through Friday, 6am-2:30pm. There is flexibility with the start and end times, possibility of working 4/10s and a hybrid telework schedule.
Currently, all employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the County cannot support ongoing telework from other locations.
