How will you make an impact in this role?
The Global Merchant & Network Pricing (GMNP) team is responsible for the single largest source of revenue for American Express: merchant discount revenue. The team works closely with multiple business partners to determine pricing structures that encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction. Ultimately, the team drives merchant revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, flexible pricing architecture, and innovative pricing solutions.
The Analyst in Merchant Acquisition (MA) &Regional & Centralized Client Group (RCCG) is responsible for developing actionable insights and analytics to support Merchant Acceptance growth by developing pricing proposals for new merchant acquisitions and managing intro fund requests end-to-end. The role will also own Exception Pricing Process for Industry Code changes and provide support for ad hoc projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to gain deep knowledge of the merchant business, as well as exposure to and insight from Leadership across the Blue Box. They should be a dynamic individual who is eager to learn Merchant Pricing and can work closely with partners and leaders and has the right ambition to drive change.
Responsibilities:
- Build clear, data-driven pricing proposals and recommend rate structures for Merchant Acquisition initiatives, leveraging internal and external data, competitive intelligence, and industry research to inform pricing strategies and maintain pricing integrity.
- Process Intro Funds requests end‑to‑end: validate eligibility, prepare decision memos/term sheets, obtain required approvals, and ensure documentation aligns to the published Pricing Policy, SOP and governance standards.
- Own the Exception Pricing workflow when pricing updates stem from Industry Code changes or control remediation. Prepare EP templates, reconcile volumes/rates, and drive timely approvals so partner teams can execute updates/refunds.
- Build strong working relationships with MASE and RCCG Client Management teams; act as the pricing point‑of‑contact to align priorities and close actions ahead of merchant meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 0–3 years experience in analytics, finance, consulting, or strategy (payments/merchant ecosystem a plus).
- Strong analytical toolkit: Excel (modeling & sensitivity analysis), comfort with large datasets; SQL/Python a plus.
- Structured communicator with executive presence; can translate analysis into crisp recommendations.
- High ownership and bias for action in a fast‑paced environment; comfortable with ambiguity and multi‑partner workflows.
- Relationship builder who collaborates across Pricing, Merchant Acquisition, Client Management (RCCG), Operations, and risk/compliance partners
- Self-starter who excels in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that places a premium on driving results
Salary Range: $65,500.00 to $102,500.00 annually + bonus + benefits
