Role Summary

Reinsurance plays an important role in supporting National Life Group’s growth. The ideal candidate will have a combination of analytical skills and a strong production mindset. This position is responsible for the administration of proportionally reinsured policies for all lines of business in accordance with the reinsurance agreements between National Life Group and the respective reinsurance companies. The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining and reconciling reinsurance records, files, and dashboards. This position requires attention to detail, ability to meet production deadlines, and an understanding of the financial impact of reinsurance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with Senior Director, Reinsurance, Capital Management supporting opportunities to enhance NLG’s capital position, earnings, and/or ROE via reinsurance arrangements or other actions.
  • Prepare and validate weekly, monthly, and quarterly statements for reinsurers along with annual deliverables and ad hoc requests
  • Run reports to check for discrepancies, complete reconciliations, validate data and adjust as needed
  • Demonstrate a continuous process improvement mindset
  • Execute complex Alteryx workflows, generate reports and identify opportunities for standardization and automation
  • Document and maintain treaty to data knowledge, spanning the high-level transaction mechanics to the granular data inputs
  • Peer review of new reinsurance agreements and changes in reinsurance administration systems
  • User acceptance testing of administration system upgrades and workflows
  • Interact with reinsurers and support relationship management
  • Key areas of coordination include Financial Reporting, Risk Management, Legal, Internal Audit, Pricing, Product Management, IT, Operations, Investments, and other areas as appropriate.
  • This position is presently onsite/hybrid with the expectation that you are in the office three days per week with current campus days being Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or business-related field
  • 5+ years of Life Insurance and Annuities experience
  • Knowledge of MS Office tools with advanced level Excel skills
  • Working knowledge and experience with Alteryx, and Tableau.
  • Knowledge of data management and demonstrated effective relationships and collaboration with IT organizations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to handle deadlines and changing priorities a must
  • A team player also able to perform independently
  • Intellectual curiosity. Ability to generate questions and seek out answers
  • Possess a partnership mindset and demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships across an organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with insurance company Statutory and GAAP financial statements.
  • Familiarity with SQL or Databricks is a plus.
  • Knowledge of general account life insurance and annuity products, especially indexed products, including knowledge of product pricing, inforce management, and investment management.
  • Experience with reinsurance, M&A, and/or capital markets (debt, securitizations, etc.).

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees.
Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.
