The Analytical Lab Helper position performs custodial work and receipt of samples in the Analytical Lab. Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment along with proper receipt of samples which include but not limited to a variety of fruits, spices and proteins.
Responsibilities
Primary Accountabilities:
- Responsible to conform to all requirements and standards as specified by the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard.
- Responsible to comply with all applicable Quality and Food Safety Management standards and/or systems to ensure continual improvement and effectiveness of the Food Safety Management System with the ability to satisfy our customers and provide products that are in accordance with their intended use and safe for human consumption
- Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing Listeria Room following instructions given by the Laboratory Manager
- Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing Salmonella/E.coli Room following instructions given by the Laboratory Manager
- Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing Microbiology Room following instructions given by the Laboratory Manager
- Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing Preparation Room following instructions given by the Laboratory Manager.
- Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing Recording Room
- Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing offices, break room, restrooms, conference room,
- Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing warehouse, walk-in freezer, and walk-in refrigerator, following all necessary pre-cautions to protect the samples and laboratory records
- Responsible for emptying all wastebaskets
- Responsible for filling paper towel, soap, and sanitizer dispensers
- Responsible for informing supervisor of any unsanitary areas, and any equipment in need of repair
- Responsible for laundering smocks and towels with the proper disinfection and sanitizing agent based on the usage.
- Responsible for light washing of front door and windows in front of building
- Responsible for obeying all safety, health, sanitation, and Lab rules and policies including MAM-1013 Chemical Hygiene Plan, MAM-3005 Electric Autoclave Maintenance all sections
- Responsible in assisting with receipt, recording and disposal of samples following process in MAM-1006 Receipt and Disposal of Product Samples
- Responsible in assisting with taking daily temperatures following process in MAM-1008 Equipment Temperature Monitoring along with completing Micro 005 Temperature Monitoring Form
- Responsible for assisting in the preparation and plating of samples.
- Responsible for following blood pathogen procedures
- Responsible for obeying the rule of never mixing cleaning chemicals
- Responsible for maintaining high quality sanitation standards
- Responsible for completing necessary paperwork including but not limited to Micro 036 Boosted Disinfection-Analytical Lab and Micro 016 Master Cleaning Schedule
- Responsible for light cleaning on interior of company car
- Some light to medium lifting is required
- Other duties that are reasonably associated with the above essential functions of the job
Qualifications
Experience, Knowledge, & Skills You Bring:
- Prior experience working in a microbiology lab setting a plus
- Must be able to identify cleaning products
- Must be able to learn, understand and carry out instructions regarding the
- job and safety procedures in Analytical Lab
- Must be able to communicate with other employees, visitors, vendors, and management
- Must be able to work any shift including weekends; overtime as needed
- Reliable attendance is an essential function of the job

Education & Certification:
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to pass job specific Physical Ability Test (PAT)
- Noise produced by manufacturing machinery up to 92 decibels
- Required to work in both cold and hot temperatures
- Required to work with cleaning products and fumes associated with these products
- Must be able to do repetitive movements of bending, reaching up to 24” overhead and forward up to 24”, squatting, and pushing & pulling an average weight of 24 lbs.
- Must be able to lift up to 24 pounds
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time on tile, concrete and/or metal grating
- Requires working in cramped quarters, standing, stooping, twisting, lifting and other physical movements to perform job
- Flexibility to work different shifts and days when required
Work Environment:
- Analytical lab environment with related noise and temperatures.
- Will sometimes work outside in all types of weather
