Job Summary
The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Kentucky is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to provide clinical coverage primarily in the Emergency Medicine Observation Unit.
This role supports the department’s mission by enhancing patient care capacity, providing close monitoring for clinically complex patients, and contributing to excellence in patient outcomes and satisfaction.
Duties for this position include direct patient care, patient and family education, support to fast track and physician in the triage system, as well as serving as a critical member of the clinical care team.
This includes obtaining patient health histories, reviewing outside records, and performing complete physical examinations, as well as documenting findings, noting pertinent normal and abnormal findings. In addition, this position orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests and performs approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient’s clinical status.
Patient education will also be an essential function, and this position will be required to explain the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of therapy to patients, patient’s family, staff, and healthcare learners.
In addition, this position will serve as a role model for advanced practice professional provider through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
