The Department of Residence Life at the University of Pittsburgh welcomes applications for the position of Area Coordinator for Leadership. Theoretical understandings of student development and community development are required for this position. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communication skills, an ability to work collaboratively in achieving the goals of Residence Life and the Division of Student Affairs, and must be acutely aware of student and staff developmental issues to be effective in this role.
Starting salary for the Area Coordinator is $47,500 annually, as well as competitive benefits offered by the University of Pittsburgh. A university furnished apartment on campus in the vibrant city of Pittsburgh, and a university meal plan is also provided.
Job Summary
Leads team and assists with overseeing the University’s residential facilities and residence life educational programs. Oversees the recruitment, selection, and training of residence life student and professional staff. Participates in strategic planning efforts and establishes performance goals and measures to evaluate success. Implements policies and procedures, adheres to regulations and standards, and ensures the safety and security of residents.
Essential Functions
The Area Coordinator provides leadership and oversight to an area of campus, as well as providing a key leadership role in supporting essential functions of the Residence Life program related to supporting department leadership initiatives. The focus of this position is on the supervision and support of a professional staff team. This position reports to the Associate Director of Residence Life.
The Area Coordinator position is a full-time, 12-month, live-on position. Specific duties include: Supervision and mentorship of 2-4 professional staff member, Coordinate the support of departmental graduate students through one on one and group supervision, Facilitate the implementation of the graduate student development and evaluation process, Support the development and management of a returning resident student curriculum, Provide training and ongoing mentorship for Resident Assistants serving in the Lead Student Staff Member role, Develop and facilitate Student Staff Member alumni mentorship program, Collaborate with campus partners including Business Hospitality, and Auxiliary Services, Facilities Management, Off-Campus Student Services, and Athletics to support the student experience, Student Staff supervision support, Conflict intervention and crisis management, Student support and follow-up, A commitment to inclusion and belonging, Participation in second level on-call duty rotation, Serve as a liaison to campus and community partners, and Participation in Division of Student Affairs and university committees as needed.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification: Requirements for this position include a master's degree and at least 2 years of experience in Residence Life. Supervisory experience of graduate and/or professional staff preferred. A Master’s Degree in Student Development, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or a related field is preferred.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm
Work Arrangement: Hybrid: Combination of On-Campus and Remote work as determined by the department.
