Alfred State is looking for a dynamic professional as the Advisor for ACE/ASAP Program students. This individual will provide individualized academic and personal support to a cohort of students enrolled in the ACE/ASAP programs. The Advisor plays an essential role in guiding students through their academic journey, helping them navigate challenges, and connecting them with resources to ensure timely graduation. The Advisor is a member of an integrated team that provides individual academic, career, and personal support to an assigned group of students as they progress through the program.
Reporting to the Director of ACE/ASAP, this individual is responsible for implementing advisement services, facilitating special events/workshops, and supporting recruitment efforts. This individual will work collaboratively with the staff in the Student Success and EOP areas. This person will work directly with the Registrar's, Admissions, and Financial Aid offices.
This is a 12-month position.
The successful candidate will:
- Deliver comprehensive advisement support services to an assigned group of students through degree completion.
- Offer personalized guidance on course selection, academic planning, and progression to ensure students meet their educational goals.
- Assist students in overcoming personal, financial, and academic obstacles by connecting them with the appropriate campus and community resources.
- Review student progress and track student use of academic support services, by maintaining detailed records.
- Implement interventions as needed to promote student success.
- Conduct regular outreach to faculty and other college staff by working collaboratively to coordinate support services and advocate for student needs.
- Maintain accurate tracking data and notes for each assigned student, recommending appropriate referrals and support programs.
- Support annual recruitment of new students to the program and assist in orientation/summer programs to acclimate student to the program.
- Organize periodic special events and programs for students, faculty, and staff.
- Conduct or support delivery of student workshops on topics such as time management, career exploration, and financial literacy.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, counseling, education, social work, or related field
- Strong understanding of the needs of first year and transfer college students.
- Experience working with underrepresented students in higher education or similar setting.
- A strong commitment to supporting diverse student population and enhancing student success.
- Experience with coordination and facilitation of group activities/workshops.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to enter, monitor, and accurately interpret student data.
- Ability to work occasionally in the evenings and weekends
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or related field.
- Experience serving in an academic advisor or counselor position in Higher Education.
- Experience working with faculty and administration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, such as Microsoft office, Banner, D2L, advising software and student management software, with an aptitude to learn new systems as needed.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Bilingual.
