
Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball
General Description:
This regular, part-time (85%) position works 44 weeks per year and is responsible for assisting the head men’s basketball coach with organizing and coaching the men’s basketball team and overseeing academic success. The position reports directly to the head men’s basketball coach and Athletic Director, in the Division of External Affairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with the supervision of practices and games. Provides instruction to student-athletes as directed by the head men’s basketball coach.
Actively encourage academic success and degree completion among student athletes. Receive and maintain the DSCC Master Advisor certification.
Monitors class and study hall attendance, faculty progress reports for student-athletes, and serves as a Master Advisor.
Assist with transport of athletic teams to and from games and tournaments. Maintains a commercial driver license.
Assist with the supervision of team activities.
Assist with equipment inventory and maintenance.
Assist with practice and game day preparation.
Assist in coordinating fund raising activities following state and DSCC policies.
Participate in the annual athletic awards program.
Assist in maintaining program compliance with NJCAA and TCCAA eligibility criteria and reporting as requested by the head men’s basketball coach.
Recruit and retain student-athletes.
Serve as the website content manager for men’s basketball.
Working Conditions:
Restricted: Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 50 lbs), walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency or severity is limited. Frequent travel including overnight travel is required.
Required Qualifications:
Must have reliable transportation and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
One year experience in a position coaching high school or intercollegiate athletics at the college level.
Preference is given to applicants that meet the requirements to drive a rental vehicle, typically a 15-passenger van, to assist with transporting athletes to and from athletic events. In Tennessee, drivers must be 21 years of age to drive a rental vehicle
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in a high need teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution preferred.
Preference is given to candidates with community college and NJCAA experience.
Experience using Banner student information system and Degree Works preferred.
Salary Range: $31,365-$39,185
