The Assistant Director for Programming and Events supports a vibrant, inclusive student experience by coordinating, managing, and providing support for student events, including, but not limited to, key campus traditions, Student Leadership, Identity, and Community Engagement (SLICE) signature programs, and recognized student organizations activities. Reporting to Associate Director for Student Leadership and Engagement, the Assistant Director facilitates campus-wide programming, oversees and executes key campus traditions, coordinates the recognized student organization event approval and management process, and strengthens student engagement through advising recognized student organizations in developing intentional, thoughtful programming and events. This position works collaboratively across campus to ensure programming reflects institutional values of inclusion, equity, access, and student-centered learning.
University Traditions & Signature Programs (35 %)
- Contribute to the strategic visioning for on-campus programming facilitated by SLICE through cultivating, enhancing, supporting and/or augmenting existing programming to ensure a comprehensive program of activities that enhances student sense of belonging and cultivates community.
- Lead, coordinate, market, and/or support the planning, execution, and continuous improvement and growth of campus-wide traditions and signature events including, but not limited to, Welcome Week, Senior Week, Family & Friends Weekend, Halloweekend, Late Night Breakfast, school spirit events, Worcester engagement, International Gala, and Spree Day.
- Demonstrate systems-level thinking through identifying connections across organizations, initiatives, campus partners, and existing campus traditions and programming to create integrated and interconnected campus wide programming.
- Advise, work closely with, and partner with student organizations and leaders including, but not limited to, the Student Activities Board and Pub Entertainment Committee, to plan and executive large-scale campus events.
- Coordinate a strategic and intentional sequence of events facilitated by SLICE and recognized student organizations to ensure a cohesive and holistic program of activities that facilitates a robust student experience throughout the academic year.
- Ensure alignment between campus traditions and signature programs and the institutional mission, values, and the co-curricular student experience through serving on committees and working groups and strategically collaborating with campus partners.
- Design and disseminate assessments that identify and articulates outcomes affiliated with student learning outcomes and competencies including, but not limited to, communication, leadership, teamwork, equity and inclusion, critical thinking, and career and self-development.
- Use assessment data, student feedback, and participation trends to inform program design and continuous improvement. Utilize engagement data and learning outcomes of campus traditions and SLICE signature programs to inform decision-making and enhance the co-curricular experience.
- Identify gaps in student involvement and design initiatives to ensure support for disengaged or underserved populations, collaborate across areas to make improvements and enhancements to programming to support all undergraduate and graduate students.
Student Organization and Club Event Management (30%)
- Oversee, review, and coordinate, all event requests, inquiries, and submissions by recognized student organizations within a timely manner. Support clubs through the full event lifecycle, including approvals and timelines, space reservations and logistics, vendor coordination, and risk management and campus policies.
- Liaise and collaborate with cross-campus partners including, but not limited to, the Office of Facilities, University Events, Dining and Catering, Athletics and Recreation, and University Police to ensure all policies, procedures, timelines, and protocols of key campus partners are upheld allowing for seamless execution of events hosted by recognized student organizations and SLICE.
- Advise student leaders in event planning, risk management, budgeting, assessment, and inclusive engagement practices. Create and facilitate trainings, policies, and information to support student engagement in these areas in alignment with Divisional student learning outcomes and NACE competencies.
- Document and consistently review, update, modify, and/or create policies, procedures, forms, and systems affiliated with recognized student organizations event review and management process.
- Collaborate with and regularly meet with students and recognized student organizations to ensure clear expectations and understanding of policies, procedures, and protocols affiliated with on-campus events and activities.
- Serve as a representative for major student-run events. Staff or ensure appropriate staffing at SLICE signature programs, key campus traditions, and recognized student organization events as needed.
Recognized Student Organizations Management & Oversight (15%)
- Support the annual club registration and recognition process for clubs and organizations, ensuring that recognized student organizations are in compliance with university and SLICE policies and procedures.
- Assist in the management of the Engage Platform for recognized student organizations and events within the SLICE team, ensuring that information pertaining to recognized student organizations including, but not limited to, rosters, mission, advisor information, and events are accurate and up to date.
- Support key student clubs and programming events as assigned or needed and serve as a resource and support for all student engaging with SLICE.
- Build relationships with all student leaders and student clubs, with an emphasis on the large-scale programming groups to ensure cohesive coordination of large-scale campus programming.
Supervision and Leadership (10%)
- Provide direct supervision, feedback, training, and direction to student employees.
- Support the hiring, supervision, feedback, training, and direction to para-professional staff (graduate assistants, student workers, student leaders, etc.) in the implementation of programs and initiatives and executive of assigned/affiliated tasks.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusion team culture focused on learning and development.
Student Success, Community Engagement, and Inclusion (10%)
- Actively support and lead university-wide efforts to promote student retention, belonging and identity development.
- Center equity, inclusion and student voice while critically working to ensure student engagement, belonging, wellbeing, retention, and success.
- Play a key role in campus traditions and high-level university initiatives and experiences, such as opening weekend, undergraduate onboarding, orientation, commencement, family weekend, traditional events, etc.
- Promote efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community, ensuring consistency with Student Success' mission and values.
- Develop assessment plans and key performance indicators and metrics to demonstrate success.
- Remain cognizant of the University's mission and identity, the constant promotion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and the importance of student voices.
- Communicate effectively with supervisor concerning pertinent departmental and University matters.
- Serve as an active and responsible committee member for divisional and university-wide committees and communicate relevant information as appropriate.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience advising college student organizations and managing large-scale events.
- Strong strategic thinking, organizational, multi-tasking, and project management skills.
- Demonstrated experience in program development and event management and coordination.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with students, student leaders, campus partners, faculty, and the community.
- Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule to support a comprehensive and vibrant student experience
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree preferred.
- Experience planning university campus traditions or institutional signature programs.
- Experience with assessment tools, technology systems, engagement metrics, and learning outcomes.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a dynamic, diverse environment with a committed and engaged faculty and highly creative student population.
- Strong knowledge of student development theory and engagement and programming best practices.
- Possess a collaborative disposition, strong and effective communicator across multiple mediums and audiences.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Primarily on-site with evening and weekend responsibilities related to University and student events and programs.
Additional Information:
Expected Hiring Range: $54,800 to $60,250
