Pitt Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director of Strategic Engagement, a critical role within the newly established Strategic Engagement Unit. This position is responsible for the execution of all day-to-day digital fan engagement efforts, with an emphasis on email marketing, segmentation, mobile app messaging, web/app revenue placements, and digital performance optimization.

The Assistant Director supports the Assistant AD for Strategic Engagement in driving ticket sales, strengthening fan engagement, and enhancing the effectiveness of Pitt’s overall digital ecosystem. This position works collaboratively with Ticketing & Sales, Creative Services, Pitt Studios, Panther One (Data & Analytics), Fan Experience, Communications, and internal Pitt partners to ensure all digital touchpoints are delivered accurately, efficiently, and with maximum impact.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented digital marketer who is passionate about building campaigns, analyzing results, and optimizing fan journeys in a fast-paced, results-driven athletics environment.


Job Summary

Develops moderately complex web and print content and marketing. Acts as strategic contributor for communications team and creates diverse marketing materials for marketing team. Attends meetings designed for content planning and development. Ensures consistent messaging and maintains University brand and style.


Essential Functions
  • Build and deploy all Pitt Athletics email campaigns using Pitt’s CRM/ESP platform, Oracle Eloqua.
  • Execute segmentation strategies based on sport interest, geography, behavior, engagement, and purchase history.
  • Maintain an email campaign calendar aligned with department-wide priorities and sales timelines.
  • Build and maintain automated email flows (e.g., event reminders, new buyer journeys, abandoned cart triggers, postgame recaps).
  • Ensure all emails meet brand standards and accessibility guidelines.
  • Conduct ongoing A/B testing for subject lines, creative, send time, and content layout.
  • Support the Assistant AD in managing the digital inventory system for web/app placements.
  • Build, schedule, and deliver push notifications for revenue-driving moments, gameday information, ticket deadlines, and other priority content.
  • Execute segmentation strategies for push delivery to maximize engagement.
  • Track performance metrics and recommend improvements based on insights.
  • Assist with asset coordination and building of paid digital campaigns.
  • Support the Assistant AD with audience builds, creative handoffs, copy reviews, and performance pulls.
  • Ensure digital ads align with current offers, inventory priorities, and messaging.
  • Pull performance reports for email, push notifications, and web/app placements; summarize insights for the Assistant AD and internal partners.
  • Assist with digital content planning for marquee campaigns, theme nights, and brand initiatives.
  • Maintain strong organizational systems for links, audiences, assets, and campaign documentation.
