This includes working with University Advancement staff across campus to oversee a portfolio of advancement communication projects in their assigned University Advancement (UA) areas, including Alumni Relations, Stewardship, Family Engagement and Philanthropy, and Corporate and Foundation Relations, among others. It also includes working closely with the Director to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the UAC department. The Assistant Director manages one Communication Associate, providing day-to-day project support and direction, as well as helping to ensure their projects meet the University’s advancement and strategic goals.Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian Order. - In close collaboration with the Director, and as a member of the UAC leadership team, the Assistant Director, UAC, is responsible for leading the execution of creative and integrated multi-channel advancement communications for University Advancement.
- Plans, prioritizes and oversees a portfolio of advancement communication projects in their respective UA areas while building and strengthening relationships with advancement staff across campus, and serves as a leader to support overall advancement communication goals.
- Manages one Communication Associate in all aspects of project management for a wide range of advancement communication projects to ensure excellence and the successful implementation, coordination and completion of all deadlines, as well as ensuring that advancement and strategic goals are met. The Assistant Director, UAC, will supervise these daily activities, goal setting and overall performance, providing project assistance, guidance, feedback and support.
- The Assistant Director, UAC, also works closely with the Director to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of departmental operations, including all project management and communication systems are running to deliver projects on deadline and on budget.
- Performs other duties and assists with special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Experience
- Must have 5+ years of relevant communication and marketing experience within an academic, non-profit or business environment.

- This individual must be a team player with strong writing, research, interpersonal, management, organizational and planning skills.
- Must be a flexible self-starter who enjoys collaboration with a wide variety of constituencies.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to build and maintain excellent internal and external relationships.
- Must have the ability to handle multiple projects, priorities and deadlines within a fast-paced, multifaceted environment with the ability to work evenings, weekends and possibly holidays as the demands of the job dictates.
- Must be able to handle confidential information with a high level of discretion.

Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
- This individual must have a broad working knowledge of communication and marketing with a proven record of developing, leading. executing and assessing strategic and tactical marketing and communications plans.
- Must be highly proficient in all standard computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat.
Equipment Knowledge
- Personal computers, copiers and other standard office equipment.
- Experience with direct mail, and/or fundraising and alumni communication is strongly preferred.
- Must have the ability to work evenings, weekends and possibly holidays as the demands of the job dictates.
