
Assistant Manager, Real Estate Collections
JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant Manager, Real Estate Collections, plays a critical role in supporting the credit union’s efforts to reduce delinquency and minimize risk across the residential real estate loan portfolio, including mortgages and home equity loans. This role assists in managing the real estate collections team and is responsible for all stages of the real estate collections process, including loss mitigation and default servicing guidelines for GSE loans. The Assistant Manager ensures compliance with OnPoint’s internal policies, as well as state and federal regulations.
This position fosters a culture of collaboration and professional development by leading, coaching, and cross-training collections staff. The role also involves monitoring performance metrics, promoting member-centered service, and driving operational efficiency to meet departmental goals related to both quality and productivity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Track and manage delinquent residential real estate loans; identify and escalate high-risk accounts for legal action, foreclosure, or charge-off as appropriate.
- Review aging and performance reports, evaluate account histories, and recommend collection strategies aligned with OnPoint's risk management policies.
- Lead and support collections team members through coaching, performance planning, training, and ongoing feedback.
- Set clear team goals, monitor progress, and implement development plans to drive high performance and staff engagement.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to promote personal and professional growth.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and open communication, ensuring consistency in policy enforcement and service delivery.
- Ensure departmental workflows are efficient through ongoing cross-training and workload balancing.
- Model and reinforce a strong commitment to exceptional member service in all collection interactions.
- Monitor trends and changes in collections volume; collaborate with the Director of Collections to analyze data and adjust strategies as needed.
- Oversee foreclosure and modification recommendations in collaboration with the Director of Collections.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to real estate loan collections.
- Collaborate with Collections Leadership to develop and continuously improve policies and procedures for the department to maximize productivity and efficiency while mitigating losses and expenses.
- Act as a collections administrator for the real estate servicing systems (LMS and MSP).
- Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned by management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach, mentor, and motivate a team.
- Extensive knowledge in real estate loss mitigation and default servicing guidelines is required.
- Technical knowledge of collection systems, including Temenos, LMS, and MSP, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues within these systems.
- Strong judgment, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive member and account information.
- Analytical problem-solving abilities, especially in evaluating account risk and developing resolution strategies.
- Excellent organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines for both self and team.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for working with members, staff, and external partners.
- Proficient with standard business applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and database tools; ability to interpret reports and support data-driven decision-making.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of collection policies, loan servicing, foreclosure processes, and applicable laws (e.g., FDCPA, RESPA, CFPB regulations).
- Minimum of 2-3 years of supervisory experience with demonstrated people/management skills.
- Minimum of 5 years of real estate collection experience.
- Experience within a financial institution is preferred.
- Experience with MSP and Temenos is preferred.
- Proven effective written and verbal communication skills.
