Department Overview

The Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position. We seek outstanding candidates working in basic and/or translational research in host-microbe interactions and immunology, with a strong emphasis on molecular approaches that advance our understanding of disease mechanisms.

Function/Duties of Position

The successful applicant will develop an independent, vibrant research program, collaborate effectively with current investigators, and contribute to teaching and service. OHSU offers a highly interactive research environment with access to outstanding core facilities, including advanced imaging, cryo-electron microscopy, proteomics, metabolomics, flow cytometry, and more.

Microbiology and immunology research at OHSU is a highly collaborative environment that spans the entire University, including but not limited to the Division of Infectious Diseases, the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VTGI), and the School of Dentistry. OHSU provides a strong foundation for clinical and translational research through support mechanisms such as the Pharmacokinetics Core, the Center for Experimental Therapeutics, and the NIH-funded Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute (OCTRI).

Joint appointments in other OHSU Departments/Institutes/Schools will be considered on an individual basis.

As a member of the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology (MMI) you will report to the Department Chair, and will be responsible for duties in the areas outlined.

  • Pursue and execute scholarly and service activities including instruction, clinical practice, community service and administrative duties for the department.
  • Instruct medical, dental, nursing, graduate students, and house staff.
  • Engage in scholarly research activities directed towards the understanding, detection, and treatment of disease.
  • Serve on School and OHSU committees as approved by the Chair.
  • Engage in such public service as will benefit the community and the University.
  • Serve in such administrative functions as may be assigned by the Chair.

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in relevant discipline with a strong record of publication.
