Title: Assistant Professor, Graphic & Digital Media Design

Unit: Full-Time MCCC Day Faculty

Department: Communication, Art, & Design (CA&D)

General Summary: The Communication, Art, & Design Department seeks a broadly skilled designer with expertise spanning graphic design, digital media, social media content creation, and multimedia storytelling. The successful candidate will bring both creative depth and technical fluency, preparing students for contemporary careers in design, marketing, and digital communication.

This faculty member will play a key role in advancing the department's interdisciplinary curriculum by integrating design principles with emerging media platforms, including social media, video, web, and interactive content. The position supports the department's expansion into workforce-aligned programs and micro-credentials such as Social Media Content Creation & Marketing and Web Design & Coding, while contributing to student success, portfolio development, and industry readiness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teaching and Curriculum
    • Teach a range of courses, including:
      • Graphic design (print and digital)
      • Social media design and content creation
      • Multimedia design (video, motion graphics, interactive media)
      • Web design and basic coding (as applicable)
    • Integrate industry-standard tools (Adobe Creative Suite, video editing platforms, social media analytics tools, etc.).
    • Emphasize real-world applications such as branding, digital campaigns, and cross-platform storytelling.
    • Contribute to and expand micro-credentials
    • Support curriculum innovation aligned with industry trends and employer needs.
  • Student Support and Engagement
    • Mentor students in building digital portfolios that include social media campaigns, multimedia work, and professional graphic design projects.
    • Support career pathways in fields such as graphic design, digital marketing, content creation, UX/UI, and multimedia production.
    • Foster inclusive and equitable classroom environments that support diverse learners.
  • Department and College Service (Enhanced)
    • Help strengthen partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, and industry professionals for internships and project-based learning.
    • Support and collaborate with partner high schools and institutions to expand Early College and Dual Enrollment programs, including curriculum alignment, outreach, and pathway development for prospective students.
    • Contribute to the department's role as a community hub for creative services and digital media innovation.
    • Support recruitment and retention efforts through program visibility and relevance to current job markets.
    • Participate in departmental planning, curriculum development, and assessment.
    • Participate in college governance and committee work.
  • Professional Development
    • Maintain an active creative or scholarly practice in art, design, media, or communication.
    • Stay current with emerging technologies, design trends, and creative practices.


Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Graphic Design, Media Arts, Visual Communication, Digital Media, or related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
    • Graphic design (print and digital)
    • Social media content creation and strategy
    • Multimedia production (video, motion graphics, or interactive media)
  • Proficiency in industry-standard tools (Adobe Creative Suite, web/social platforms, etc.).
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating multi-platform design work, including digital and social media projects.
  • Ability to teach across multiple modalities.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and student success.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate collegially across disciplines.
  • Commitment to continuous professional improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MFA in Graphic Design, Media Arts, or related field.
  • Professional experience in digital marketing, social media strategy, or multimedia production.
  • Experience with emerging areas such as UX/UI, content strategy, or analytics.
  • Experience developing workforce-oriented curriculum or micro-credentials.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement.
  • Familiarity with online and hybrid course development and delivery (Blackboard LMS proficiency a plus).
  • Student advising experience, particularly in supporting diverse populations.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary Range: $60,483 is the starting salary for Column B under the MCCC Salary Grids for an Assistant Professor with a Master's Degree; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
