The start date for the position is September 1st, 2026.The Department of Mathematics values active learning environments. Faculty in our department are encouraged to implement novel and engaging pedagogical methods that are active and inclusive. The successful applicant will have access to robust support and advising from the mathematics faculty as they hone and evolve their teaching philosophies.Westfield State University is proud to consider itself a teaching university. The tea-ching load is 24 credits each year, typically 12 credits each semester. Every faculty member in the department is expected to teach courses in the calculus sequence, upper-level courses for STEM majors, and introductory courses for non-STEM majors. Most courses are capped at 25 students.Duties and Responsibilities:Duties include but not limited to:Essential:• Leading the development of a statistics major.• Teaching courses in mathematics, data science, statistics, applied mathematics, and data analysis.• In addition to teaching, faculty are expected to engage in scholarly activity, which can take many different forms.• Faculty provide academic advising and other support to students; opportunities to advise student research are available and very much encouraged.• As part of expected service to the Department and Westfield State, develop and support academic courses and programs.Job Requirements:Required Qualifications• Applicants should have, or plan to have by September 1st, 2026, a terminal degree in statistics, mathematics, data science, data analytics, or a related field.In response to the Presidential proclamation, issued on September 19, 2025, imposing a significant fee on the entry of individuals with new H-1B visas, this position may not be eligible for visa sponsorship.Additional Information:Salary:Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
