For more than 25 years, SAI has specialized in asset allocation solutions, as well as crafting methodologies for many of Fidelity's investment planning tools to help investors reach their financial goals. With over $1 trillion in assets under management, the SAI team of investment professionals builds and manages asset allocation portfolios for over three million customer accounts.

The Role

SAI is looking for an Associate Investment Manager to join the team in our San Francisco office. This person will be responsible for managing individual tax-sensitive accounts, ranging in size from $200,000 to several million dollars each. Our discretionary service designed to provide tax-sensitive, customized management of multi-asset class, multi-manager portfolios for taxable individuals and trusts, and is part of Fidelity Portfolio Advisory Services. The Investment Management team currently manages over $500 billion and over 600,000 individually managed tax sensitive portfolios. The candidate will learn and implement our overlay management strategies with a goal to maximize after-tax returns while controlling risk. The candidate may also play a role in SAI's next generation of managed account strategies which include Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs) and multi-account investment management.

The Value You Deliver

Portfolio Management

  • Manage individual client portfolios consistent with Strategic Advisers' investment philosophy and the unique portfolio parameters and objectives of each client account.

  • Generate superior after-tax returns using various tax management strategies and risk tools.

  • Perform portfolio analysis using proprietary and non-proprietary software and use the results to further enhance the returns of the portfolios.

  • Review and thoroughly understand internal analyst research on individual securities, ETFs, and mutual funds to incorporate into investment decisions. Gain full understanding of our portfolio construction process as well as keep fluent in all market and fund analyst research.

  • Monitor and carry out fiduciary responsibilities.

  • Implement investment strategies based on market movements, tax code changes, trading, systems enhancements, investment choices, etc.

Analysis

  • Ability to create detailed analysis to analyze trends, portfolio data, holdings, returns or other ad hoc requests as directed by portfolio managers, research analysts or team leaders.

  • Support client facing teams with in-depth analysis and recommendations for client financial planning needs.

Experience and Education

  • Graduate degree a plus; undergraduate degree required. Degree or emphasis in finance/accounting/economics subjects strongly preferred.

  • 3-5 years of industry experience, including 1-3 years relevant experience in a portfolio analysis, security research or portfolio management role.

  • Existing or active progress toward CFA, CPA, or CFP credentials.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Outstanding attention to detail, as well as superior analytical or quant skills that allow for independent judgment and decisive reasoning while dealing with significant time constraints.

  • Basic understanding of portfolio construction, portfolio theory and quantitative portfolio construction techniques.

  • Ability to operate in a fast paced “start-up” like environment with an adaptable skill set, creative problem solving skills, and the ability to multi-task.

  • Basic understanding of the tax code and portfolio management for taxable clients.

  • Must have superior ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment as well as work independently.

The base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $175,000 per year.

Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate’s relevant experience, and other factors.

Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
