Job Summary

As a member of the IT team, the Audiovisual Support Technician is responsible for managing a wide range of technologies across the Harvard Radcliffe Institute (HRI) campus and ensuring scheduled events are successful in their use of AV technology across campus. The AV Support Technician closely collaborates with all stakeholders including users and support staff to understand use cases, provide support, training, and creates detailed documentation. In addition, the AV Support Technician will manage inventory and lifecycle schedules in all audiovisual enabled conference rooms, meeting spaces, event spaces and other convening spaces spread across campus buildings.

This position requires particularly strong attention to customer satisfaction and the ability to maintain a calm and positive demeanor under high pressure/high visibility situations.

Position Description

  • Serve as internal expert on HRI audiovisual systems and tools
  • Oversee and operate multi-media equipment including video, audio, lighting, computer presentation, projection, digital signage, videoconferencing systems, and livestream devices (20%)
    • Setup and test all technology components prior to an event. Quickly identify and correct technical issues prior to the start of an event.
    • Provide dedicated support as required for high profile events; active monitoring of audio levels, projection quality, and lighting to ensure optimal experience for local and remote audiences.
    • Provide “in the moment” technical adjustments for issues encountered during live events using clear technical methodologies while causing minimal impact.
    • Work directly with departments to evaluate their audio-visual equipment needs – review event request supports to ensure fulfillment, make recommendations for alternate services and develop technology flow diagrams.
  • Ensure all AV Services staff and key HRI departmental leads are well situated with any room technology prior to any respective events and presentations (10%)
  • Load in, operate, and load out equipment for events for internal and external customers as needed (15%)
  • Identify innovative technology solutions and make recommendations for equipment purchases, system design, and client utilization (10%)
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all audio-visual hardware and provide recommendations for hardware refresh cycles; maintains necessary documentation for accountability of loaner and ad-hoc hardware set-ups (5%)
  • Develop training materials and conduct in-person training to Radcliffe faculty/staff/external vendors related to A/V system operations (10%)
  • Work with Communications staff to facilitate live and non-live-event related video production (20%)
  • Interface with live events vendor for large-scale production events (10%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • At least 5 years' relevant experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Project management skills
  • Live-event video production experience
  • Strong aptitude to quickly learn and institutionalize business, technical, and process knowledge; interest and ability to assess and improve work processes
  • AV installation experience
  • Crestron Programming experience
  • Preferred experience in computer and network troubleshooting, including diagnosing connectivity issues, supporting audiovisual (AV) systems, and resolving issues with user devices connected to these systems.
  • Ability to read complex construction and design drawings
  • Customer service experience in a fast-paced, academic environment where quality delivery and relationship building are valued.
  • Effective interpersonal skills including written and verbal communications.
  • Proven ability to organize/coordinate workload independently among constant deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Strong maturity, professionalism, and judgment; ability to complete most work with minimal supervision

  • Ability to perform physical tasks including climbing ladders and stairs; able to individually lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds, and up to 100 pounds with the assistance of others

Working Conditions

  • Frequent movement between campus buildings will be required to provide support to our community.
  • Support outside of regularly scheduled hours, including weekends, will occasionally be required
  • Must be accessible during business hours, and occasionally off-hours

This position will support some remote work where business and team needs allow. Work Format Details

This is a hybrid position that is based in Massachusetts. Additional details will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed within one of the Harvard Registered Payroll States, which currently includes Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Washington, and California (CA for exempt positions only). Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
