The program combines hands-on nonprofit work, professional skill development, and national leadership exposure to help prepare students for future careers and civic leadership.

As a Student Leader, you will work as a paid intern at a local nonprofit organization. You will complete a meaningful project that supports the organization’s mission while learning how nonprofits, businesses, and communities work together to address important social issues.

Each Student Leader is assigned a primary project. Examples may include:
• Helping develop communications or fundraising materials
• Supporting volunteer recruitment or orientation improvements
• Analyzing homeowner applications, program data, or community partnerships
• Research, data organization, or presentation development

In addition to your core work, you’ll gain a well-rounded look at how your organization operates. You will participate in activities across numerous focus areas, such as:
• Executive & Board Leadership – Meet with organizational leaders and attend meetings
• Fundraising & Development – Learn about donors, grants, and fundraising strategies
• Volunteer Engagement – See how volunteers are recruited, trained, and supported
• Homeowner or Client Services – Learn how programs serve individuals and families
• Community Partnerships & Advocacy – Explore collaborations with local organizations and government
• Construction, ReStore, or Program Operations (if applicable) – Participate in hands on or site based learning
• Finance & Budgeting – Get an introduction to nonprofit finances and budgeting
These experiences may include job shadowing, staff meetings, informational sessions, and interactions with senior staff.

As a Student Leader, you are expected to:
• Act professionally and responsibly in the workplace
• Be open to learning, feedback, and new experiences
• Participate actively in projects and learning opportunities
• Be curious about leadership, careers, and community impact
