The Role
The Black List is a platform dedicated to identifying and celebrating exceptional storytelling. First established in 2005 as an annual survey of Hollywood's most-liked unproduced screenplays. The Black List has since grown into a comprehensive resource for the film, TV, publishing, and theater worlds, serving thousands of writers, agents, managers, showrunners, producers, financiers, directors, actors, and theater industry professionals.
We are a small team that punches far above our weight, and we are looking for interns with a clear passion for storytelling and technology to join us in doing the same.
Ideal interns are likely the sort of people who have strong opinions on some, if not all, of the following: the Oscars, movie posters, book and album covers, fine art, architecture, fashion (haute couture, street, and where the two meet), the aesthetics of television ads, film and television company logos, and whether RottenTomatoes or Metacritic is more useful. More importantly, they're the sort of people who can communicate those strong
opinions effectively with people who disagree without being disagreeable.
While most interns will be generalists–working on a wide variety of projects related to Black List business–prospective interns with a specific interest in, and aptitude for, graphic design and/or video work may have the opportunity to specialize if they so desire.
Please note that The Black List is a remote company, and the majority of the team works from home in Los Angeles. That being said, we will host in-person lunches and events to get to know our interns in the real world.
Responsibilities:
• Office tasks that support continued business operations
• Note-taking during meetings
• Regular script reading and coverage (unrelated to the paid service we provide via the
• Black List website.)
• Assisting in design and assessment of social media assets, including video editing
• Creating and maintaining project and company-related lists and logs
• Research projects
Applicants should submit a resume and a cover letter, the latter of which should include a one paragraph answer to one (and only one) of the following questions:
• What's your favorite movie released in the year you were born and why?
• Defend a movie with a RottenTomatoes score below 15.
• What's your favorite movie-related social media account and why?
