Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, D.C., is seeking a Business Insights Analyst as an on-site role.
Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

In this role, you won’t just analyze data—you’ll partner with business leaders to understand our operations and turn that knowledge into insights that drive performance. You’ll identify trends, uncover opportunities, and develop practical reporting and visualization solutions that support real-world decision-making across the organization.

You’ll work cross-functionally to solve business challenges and prototype data solutions that improve visibility, efficiency, and outcomes.

We’re looking for someone who is naturally curious, enjoys solving problems, and can translate data into clear, actionable insights—not just reports.

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in business analytics or data-driven roles, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
  • Experience contributing to or managing a project portfolio
  • A bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, business, mathematics, economics, statistics, or engineering required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partner with business leaders and cross-functional teams to understand information needs and translate them into meaningful reporting and data visualization solutions that support decision-making.
  • Build strong relationships with business users to gain insight into frontline processes and continuously improve the quality and relevance of data solutions.
  • Integrate and analyze data from multiple internal and external sources to enhance business insights and reporting capabilities.
  • Apply statistical and analytical techniques to develop queries, reports, and visualizations that answer business questions and drive results.
  • Design, prototype, test, and deploy automated reporting solutions; continuously refine outputs based on feedback and evolving business needs.
  • Collaborate with leadership to prioritize projects and manage a portfolio of 3–4 concurrent initiatives, ensuring timely delivery and clear communication of progress.
  • Reviewing, validating, and executing data changes to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance across systems.
  • Utilize tools such as Tableau, SQL, Alteryx, and Power BI to build scalable, production-ready data solutions; monitor and optimize performance over time.
  • Partner with Data & Analytics and IT teams to align with enterprise strategy, best practices, and ensure efficient, reliable data workflows and synchronization.
  • Develop innovative approaches to solve complex business problems and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Present insights and recommendations to senior leaders and key stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, tools, and data utilization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of analytical methods and business acumen to guide cross functional teams.
  • Working knowledge of one or more programming languages.
  • Must have experience using various analytical and reporting software programs (Tableau, SQL, Alteryx, Power BI, etc.).
  • Strong PC skills and the ability to self-develop and adapt to changing technology. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, macros, and lookups.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Must be able to interpret an extensive variety of data.
  • Understanding of master data management and downstream impacts
  • Ability to balance data governance with business responsiveness
  • Self-starter and driven while working well in team environment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail in order to spot inaccuracies in coding or data.
  • Must possess ability to train and educate others.
  • Effective communication skills in relating complicated subject matter.
  • Manage timely flow, meeting requested deadlines of results to users.
  • Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively with various business partners to provide a holistic view of the analysis.
  • Highly organized and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical requirements must be met for the Business Insights Analyst job, including regularly being required to sit and talk or hear.
