Job Synopsis

Operating the forklift to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from storage areas and loading docks into trailers or shipping containers is a part of this job. This job requires lifting up to 75-pound bales with assistance to stack on pallets or shipping containers. This individual also assists with incoming donations at the back door and with volunteers by moving gaylords and pallets around in the warehouse as needed. It is very important to make volunteers feel welcome and to enable them to do their jobs. This requires being able to give instructions as needed and to make sure that volunteers can do their jobs. Keeping the volunteer space in the warehouse neat and clean is also an important part of this role. Maintenance duties include performing routine and/or an extensive range of work in the repair and general maintenance of the facility and includes outdoor work involving grounds keeping.

We are looking for someone or potentially multiple people available occasionally during peak busy seasons (January-August) and to cover other staffing gaps. This position does not have consistent hours, but any scheduled hours would be between 8am-5pm Monday-Friday.

Essential:

  • High school diploma or basic literacy and ability to do fundamental math
  • Basic written and verbal proficiency in English
  • One to three years of experience with general maintenance
  • Forklift experience
  • Ability to efficiently use various power and hand tools
  • High degree of attention required to prevent injury to others; promote a safe work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Follow instructions for operating equipment and keeping records
  • Execute assignments in accurate, timely and safe manner

Preferred:
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Basic computer skills
  • Plumbing and Electrical experience

Key Responsibilities

Transports material to and from designated areas in the facility 50%
Assists with volunteers, recycling and cleaning the warehouse 35%
Performs repair and general maintenance 15%

Duties and Responsibilities for Forklift Operator:

  • Obtain direction from the Warehouse Coordinator for the transport of material to and from designated areas in the facility.
  • Load and unload goods from vehicles such as trailers and shipping containers.
  • Stack goods on pallets (could weigh between 40 to 75 pounds).
  • Move goods packed on pallets or in bales or gaylords around the storage facility.
  • Stack goods in the correct storage bays, follow inventory control instructions.
  • Check that loads are secure.
  • Stack empty pallets.
  • Perform daily equipment checks such as recharging the forklift battery and lubricating equipment.
  • Check recycling gaylords in outside shed on a regular basis, keep them emptied.
  • Show initiative in maximizing warehouse spacing. Learn how to place pallets to make the most of the space and keep them in order.


Duties with Recycling and Volunteers:
  • Receive donations of recycling and material resources from the ""back door"".
  • Remove machine attachments from book debinders and waste materials incurred from paper recycling.
  • Be ready to give instructions to volunteers on how to do their jobs.
  • Keep the warehouse clean to make the volunteer space welcoming.
  • Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards
  • Assist volunteers by moving pallets and gaylords for them as needed. Watch for ways to be helpful.


Duties and Responsibilities for Maintenance Work
  • Perform repair or general maintenance of facilities, buildings, grounds and equipment at various sites including electrical, carpentry, plumbing and painting tasks.
  • Perform routine maintenance duties, such as replacing light bulbs, cleaning of warehouse floors, changing furnace filters, clearing sidewalks of ice and snow, trimming shrubbery, etc. Repair and treat structures such as restrooms, kitchen, sinks, walls, and flooring.
  • Move and assist in transportation of furniture and equipment.
  • Assist with activation and deactivation of building alarms and responding to alarm calls after and during regular work hours.
  • Occasional driving of MCC van or box truck.


Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis

Supervision: There are no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Travel expectations: Negligible. Occasional travel to Philadelphia or around the county to pick up comforters.

Physical Activity/Demands: Requires frequent focusing of mental and/or visual attention. Routine tasks using common equipment. This position requires continuous application of mental and visual attention given to safety in using equipment such as the forklift, hand tools, power tools, and other equipment. There is constantly need for Operating machinery and/or power tools; Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment; Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned. There is also occasionally need for ascending or descending stairs/ladders or the like; remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; moving about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another; moving objects up to 75 pounds with assistance; repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or finger. Occasional exposure to low temperatures, high temperatures, outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind and a noisy environment.

Salary Details

Base salary: $18.75. Starting salary may be adjusted up to $20.84 based on previous experience.
