Job Synopsis

This multi-faceted role combines the work of truck driving, mobile meat canner maintenance, and material resource handlingto support MCC’s canning operation. The individual will drive MCC trucks and trailers, operate mobile canning equipment, maintain key equipment and facilities, and coordinate volunteers in a wide variety of settings. Travel and hands-on mechanical work are core parts of the role.

Essential:
  • High School Diploma
  • 1-3 years relevant experience driving with a CDL.
  • Valid Class A CDL.
  • Forklift certification, or willingness to earn certification.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and flexible.
  • Comfortable with frequent travel and overnight stays.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable driving record and eligible to be an MCC authorized driver as defined by policy, insurance, and legal requirements.
Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the U.S. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).

Preferred:
  • More than 1 year of CDL experience
  • General facility maintenance and repair experience (mechanical, electrical, or plumbing)
  • Prior experience with canning, industrial food equipment, or logistics coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Specific Tasks and Duties:
  • Truck Driving, Logistics and Freight Operations
    • Load, drive, and unload MCC semi-trucks and trailers
    • Operate under DOT and MCC safety protocols using the Motive e-log system
    • Coordinate pick-up and delivery of supplies and donations.
    • Transport of material resources, including canning supplies, between MCC locations and events.
  • Mobile Canning Program Support
    • Drive and set up MCC’s mobile canner at approximately 30 locations across 13 U.S. states each year from September through May.
    • Give training on how to operate canning machinery, including:
      • Steam boiler
      • Steam cookers
      • Steam-jacketed kettles
      • Sealers
    • Provide coordination and direction to canner operators and local canning volunteers during canning sessions.
    • Collaborate with local canning committees and represent MCC with professionalism and enthusiasm.
    • Relocate frequently during the canning season in coordination with the traveling canner.
  • Maintenance and equipment Repair
    • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on MCC’s mobile canning unit, and tractor trailer.
    • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.

Salary Details

Base salary: $23.07. Starting salary may be adjusted up to $25.63 based on previous experience.

Benefits

Medical, dental and vision, 23 days paid vacation, sick time and 10 holidays/year. Life insurance provided, as well as long and short term disability coverage. The retirement plan, with MCC contribution of 7%, begins after six months of employment.

Additional Information

Supervision: No supervisory responsibilities.

Travel expectations: Travel up to 75% per year within the U.S. This involves transporting the mobile meat canner to approximately 30 locations between September to May, with 6-8 continuous weeks in the mid-west from mid-October to mid-December.

Location Description

Based at MCC’s Material Resources Center in Ephrata, PA; transport the mobile meat canner to approximately 30 locations in the U.S. from September through May.
