Physical Requirements

This position requires regularly sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; standing or walking with objects weighing up to 10 pounds; and lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects weighing up to or over 50 pounds; intermittently standing or walking with objects weighing up to 25 pounds; performing tasks with repetitive motions (such as typing); and occasionally working at heights above four feet and/or in confined spaces. Also involves some exposure to risk of injury from moving, lifting, or positioning patients, equipment, or materials; and exposure to hazardous chemicals and fumes including waste, radiation, burns, cuts/punctures, blood-borne or airborne pathogens, and combative/violent people.



Shift

7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.; some weekends and holidays required.



Job Summary

As an assistant to the Respiratory Therapist, the Cardiopulmonary Technician will primarily be responsible for performing 12-lead ECGs and Rhythm Strips in the Chandler Emergency Department according to department standards. The Cardiopulmonary Technician is responsible for interpreting the validity of the results by evaluating basic cardiac physiology. The Cardiopulmonary Technician ensures consistent communication of test results to the registered nurse and physician as well as the Respiratory Therapist. The Cardiopulmonary Technician will document according to department standard and report any problems to a registered nurse or physician. The Cardiopulmonary Technician collaborates with respiratory therapy and nursing staff to ensure 12-lead ECG tests are performed on time. The Cardiopulmonary Technician will immediately review and validate alarms to reduce “false alarms” and improve detection of actual adverse events by providing a consistent method for EKG monitoring and enhancing patient safety. Additionally, the Cardiopulmonary Technician will be responsible for maintaining equipment to ensure proper function. This includes proper placement and function of all cables and monitors connected to patient. The Cardiopulmonary Technician must have a working knowledge and understanding of all models of monitors and ECG machines utilized, be able to perform configuration on any specific monitor, replace defective equipment, report any equipment malfunctions to initiate repair, and maintain equipment inventory. This position will serve as a resource to the Respiratory Therapist in clinical areas as needed. When not performing ECG related duties, this person may support the Respiratory Therapist by evaluating supply inventory and working to resolve supply needs. The chosen candidate must maintain confidentially of patients, employees, and hospital related activities.



Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of normal heart rhythm and basic arrhythmias; experience with 12-Lead ECGs; organizational skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, as well as follow hospital and unit policies and procedures.

Minimum of one to two years of direct experience monitoring and interpreting cardiac physiological data preferred.
