Summary:

As a valuable member of the Petmate Insights Team, the Category Analyst will report directly to the Senior Category Manager who reports to the Sr. Director of the Insights Team. The Category Analyst will work cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and Product Teams.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

POS Reporting & Analytics:(70% of role)

Supports the build and maintenance of POS and brand share reporting and data visualization dashboards.Provides in-depth analysis on key customer trends and reports on contributing factors to retailer and item performance (AUR, In stock, Store Count, Color, Size, etc.)Providing actionable insights to Sales and Cross-functional teams that drive tangible improvements or risk mitigations in retail sales.Proactively makes product or promotional recommendations to the internal sales and channel-marketing teams based on Point-of-Sale analyses.Conducts ongoing ad hoc Point-of-Sale Reporting requests from sales and other internal teamsServes as an additional point of contact for all Point-of-Sale related data needs for US and International retailers.

Category Management Support: (30% of role)

Provides value-added category insights and channel analysis for retail partners and internal teams in an extremely fast paced environmentWork collaboratively within Insights Team to develop a comprehensive look at the consumer, categories, and opportunitiesAssists in the preparation of reports and presentations, including charts and graphs, and presents recommendations for action plans to management, including but not limited to up-to-date analysis of current sales, inventory, and trendsPerforms ad-hoc reporting for customers, presentations, and the organizationLeverages analytical insights to develop actionable selling storiesUtilizes internal and external data, including Point-of-Sale, to uncover opportunities and provide analytical recommendationsCompile key findings from online customer reviews and share insights and recommendations with the organization.Retail Store WalksMonitors the integrity of the planogram and provides improvement strategiesInvestigate competitive pressures in the storeAssesses promotional executionCompiles/maintains competitive pricing informationSupports category managers in the development of in-line planograms at retail using JDA Space Planning software

Qualifications:

Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)Advanced/Expert MS Excel skills are critical, including the ability to manage large data setsBackground working with databases (e.g. Microsoft Access or Oracle Developer) a plusBackground working with space planning software a plusStrong analytical skills/intellectually curiousEffective interpersonal and relationship skills, internally with cross-functional team members and externally with customers (cooperative, collaborative, etc.)Excellent communication skills, verbal, written, and presentationSelf-starter able to work efficiently and independentlyTeam Player


Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or other related field1 - 2 years relevant experience, including experience in the CPG, Retail, or Merchandising industry, a plus1 - 2 years of analytic experience, preferably in category management/CPG, a plus


Computer Skills:

Advanced/Expert in MS Excel. Strong Microsoft Office skills


Physical Demands:

Ability to sit for long periods of time in front of a computer screen in an office environment. A moderate tolerance of loud noises if needed to go out into the production facility.
