Job Description

The Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician plays a vital role in our surgery center, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and sterilization for surgical instruments and equipment. As a Certified Sterile Processing Technician, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of sterilization equipment, following established policies and procedures to guarantee the safety and efficacy of our surgical processes. Your role is integral to our organizational goals, as you will provide exceptional customer service, participate in performance improvement initiatives, and foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain all sterilization and cleaning equipment within the Sterile Processing department.
  • Complete daily work assignments, ensuring the proper pre-cleaning, cleaning, and preparation of surgical instrumentation and equipment.
  • Follow established policies and procedures to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and sterilization.
  • Provide quality customer service to patients, surgeons, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in performance improvement efforts, contributing to the continuous enhancement of our surgical processes.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and cooperation, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Maintain annual re-certifications or as required by certifying bodies (CRCST or CIS).
  • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with department leadership and colleagues to address any concerns or issues.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations to protect yourself and others in the hospital environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification, recognized by the NJ Department of Health, is mandatory.
  • Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS) certification is preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience within SPD/sterilization is desirable.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in the English language are essential.
  • Ability to work any shift as needed, based on workload and staffing requirements.
  • Previous leadership experience is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with colleagues and healthcare professionals.
  • Physical ability to perform extensive walking, standing, and lifting, as well as push/pull 40 lbs or greater with proper body mechanics.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated with industry advancements.
