Job Description
As a Pool Scrub Technician, you will play a crucial role in the Center for Orthopedic Surgery 109 department. Your primary responsibility is to assist the surgical team during procedures, ensuring a smooth and organized operating room. You will work closely with the Registered Nurse, providing direct patient care as a scrub technician and maintaining a sterile field. Your expertise in surgical equipment and aseptic techniques is essential for the success of surgical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Assist the surgical team during surgical and invasive procedures under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Provide direct patient care as a scrub/instrument person, ensuring a safe and efficient surgical environment.
- Arrange and prepare the operating room, ensuring all surgical equipment is functioning properly.
- Maintain a sterile field by preparing and managing sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team based on surgical procedure knowledge and human anatomy.
- Assist with patient positioning and movement as directed by the perioperative registered nurse.
- Deliver prompt and professional care, maintaining confidentiality and respect at all times.
- Work collaboratively as part of the care team to meet customer needs and support departmental goals.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of continuous learning.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program is essential.
- 15 hours of continuing education to maintain NJ certification is necessary.
- Demonstrated competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
- Ability to work in a hospital environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials.
- Physical requirements include standing, reaching, and walking for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs and possess good hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity.
- Excellent visual and hearing acuity, with the ability to maintain retraction for long durations.
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy and pathophysiology related to surgical procedures.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with the surgical team.
