Job Description
The Operating Room Technician plays a vital role in assisting the surgical team, under the guidance of Registered Nurses, to deliver exceptional patient care. As a scrub/instrument person, you will be responsible for setting up sterile environments, passing surgical tools, and maintaining accurate counts. Your role is crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures and the well-being of our patients.Responsibilities
- Assist the surgical team during operating procedures, following the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- Provide direct patient care as a scrub/instrument person, including arranging sterile setups and passing sponges, instruments, and sutures.
- Maintain accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
- Assist with patient positioning and movement as directed by the surgical RN.
- Ensure a clean and organized operating room environment.
- Work collaboratively as part of the care team to meet patient needs and support departmental goals.
- Provide quality customer service and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and professional development opportunities.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain awareness of potential hazards in the hospital environment.
- Maintain good hand-eye coordination and dexterity for precise surgical assistance.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Successful completion of an accredited surgical technologist program and certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or equivalent.
- Experience in a similar role is preferred but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in Clinical Applications is desirable, and training will be provided for this skill.
- BLSHCP certification is required upon hire or transfer.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and maintain retraction for extended periods.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity.
- Good visual and auditory acuity.
- Demonstrated competencies as outlined in the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
- Report to the Clinical Director in Perioperative Services.
