Job Description
The Operating Room Technician plays a vital role in supporting the surgical team during procedures. Under the guidance of the Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care as a scrub/instrument person, ensuring a smooth and safe surgical process. Your duties will include setting up sterile equipment, assisting with instrument and suture management, and maintaining a clean and organized operating room environment. As a team player, you will work collaboratively to meet patient needs and support departmental goals, always maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.Responsibilities
- Assist the surgical team during operating procedures as directed by the Registered Nurse.
- Provide direct patient care as a scrub/instrument person, ensuring a sterile environment.
- Arrange and maintain sterile setup, including passing sponges, instruments, and sutures.
- Adjust lighting and assist with patient positioning as needed.
- Clean and maintain the operating room, ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and organization.
- Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments during surgery.
- Collaborate with the care team to meet patient needs and support departmental objectives.
- Deliver prompt and professional customer service, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of continuous learning.
- Assume responsibility for professional growth and development, staying updated with industry advancements.
Qualifications
- High School degree or equivalent, with the ability to read, speak, and write English fluently.
- Successful completion of a nationally or regionally accredited surgical technologist program, holding a certified surgical technologist credential.
- Evidence of employment as a surgical technologist on or before December 21st, 2011, may be considered as a qualification.
- Potential for exposure to hospital hazards, such as infectious diseases and hazardous waste, requires adherence to safety protocols.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs, with good hand-eye coordination, finger dexterity, and visual and hearing acuity.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to patient-centered care.
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, adapting to changing surgical needs and priorities.
- Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail during long surgical procedures.
- Current certification as a Surgical Technologist, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting is preferred but not mandatory.
