
Collateral Underwriter - Consumer Lending
Overview
The Collateral Underwriter executes higher risk and more complex Home Equity underwriting decisions, exercising a high level of designated authority within the Credit Union. This role is primarily responsible for reviewing, analyzing, underwriting, and decisioning multiple Home Equity loans in accordance with OnPoint’s lending policies, underwriting guidelines, and procedures. Works with representatives from all delivery channels to meet the borrowing needs of the membership and promote the financial well-being of the membership while ensuring the safety and soundness of OnPoint.
Responsibilities
- May participate in projects associated with the implementation of processes and procedures.
- Serves as an expert resource of the Home Equity product for lenders within the Credit Union.
- Provide prompt attention to turnaround times on all Home Equity loan applications. Discuss loan denials, counteroffers and credit underwriting as it pertains to each loan evaluation with lenders.
- Assesses the importance, urgency and risk associated with each situation to make decisions and develop viable solutions in support of meeting the member’s needs and the Credit Union’s objectives. Assesses product/loan alternatives in reaching or making loan decisions.
- Reviews income verification / tax analysis or paystubs to ensure income supports loan decision / recommendation.
- Orders, reviews and analyzes documents and reports for accuracy and to secure collateral for Home Equity product.
- Evaluates the acceptability of collateral for Home Equity products; conforming to NCUA regulations and Credit Union guidelines.
- Prepares collateral documents for closing/funding of Home Equity products. Prepares closing documents with accuracy.
- Reviews and audits collateral documents ensuring proper execution and OnPoint’s security interest is properly recorded.
- Conducts outreach third parties in order to discuss and assist with resolving lien encumbrances and issues which may impede properly secured proposed collateral.
- Processes loan subordinations within established authority and guidelines.
- Assesses the importance, urgency and risk associated with each situation to make decisions and develop viable solutions in support of meeting the member’s needs and the Credit Union’s objectives. Assesses alternatives in collateral related decisions.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Maintains thorough knowledge of OnPoints Consumer & Home Equity lending policies, guidelines, practices.
- Maintains working knowledge of: Loan Operating System, Title Reports (vesting, legal descriptions, liens/judgements), Flood Reports, Collateral Valuation Sources, Subordinations, Trusts and Escrow Services.
- Ability to conduct a thorough review and evaluate the risk of the valuation and condition of proposed collateral.
- Ability to conduct a thorough review of Residential Real Estate Title documents, such as: Title Reports, Lien and Encumbrances Reports.
- Maintains working knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations in area of responsibility to include: Truth in Lending, Reg. B, CIP, FCRA, OFAC, BSA, and Military Lending Act)
- Ability to read and analyze Credit Reports.

Qualifications
- 4 year College degree preferred.
- 3 years of lending experience required, with 2 years of consumer lending experience preferred.
- Experience analyzing basic and complex tax returns.
- Experience in analyzing RE Title Report, RE Appraisals/valuations preferred.
- Available to periodically work in the early evening hours and Saturdays.
- Proficient in working with DNA and MeridianLink operating systems preferred.
