The Construction & Volunteer Coordinator supports the successful completion of residential construction projects by assisting with all phases of site preparation, construction, and material coordination, while helping create a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for volunteers.
This position combines hands-on construction work with volunteer leadership responsibilities. On designated build days, this role may serve as the site lead in partnership with the Construction Manager, providing task instruction and safety oversight to volunteers.
As a representative of Habitat for Humanity, this individual serves as an ambassador of the organization’s mission, ensuring that homeowners, partners, donors, and volunteers experience a positive, respectful, and mission-driven environment.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties below reflect the primary functions of the role and may be adjusted based on operational needs.
Construction & Site Operations
* Assist with all phases of residential construction, including site preparation, framing, finishing, punch list items, and clean-up.
* Load, unload, stage, and organize materials for job site efficiency.
* Procure materials as directed and coordinate deliveries and pickups.
* Track material deliveries and maintain organized warehouse and job site storage areas.
* Read and interpret basic blueprints and specifications (with support as needed).
* Safely operate hand tools and power tools.
* Participate in demolition, debris removal, and site clearing.
* Assist with basic maintenance of equipment (e.g., pumps, compressors, trailers) under supervision.
* Maintain clean, safe, and organized job sites in alignment with safety standards.
* Follow all organizational safety policies and applicable OSHA guidelines.
Volunteer Leadership & Engagement
* Welcome and check in volunteers at job sites.
* Provide clear task instructions and model safe work practices
* Provide safety oversight during volunteer activities.
* May serve as lead on designated build days, in coordination with the Construction Manager.
* Support a positive, inclusive, and educational volunteer experience for individuals of varying backgrounds and skill levels.
* Communicate expectations respectfully and escalate safety or behavioral concerns as needed.
Collaboration & Communication
* Assist and communicate regularly with the Construction Manager regarding site progress and needs.
* Work independently while maintaining communication with supervisor.
* Engage professionally with employees, homeowners, board members, donors, and site visitors.
* Perform additional duties as necessary to support project completion.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
* High school diploma or GED or an equivalent combination of education, trade training, or relevant construction experience.
* 1+ years of hands-on construction, carpentry, or related labor experience preferred.
* Experience leading, supervising, or instructing volunteers or small teams is a plus.
Knowledge & Skills
* Basic understanding of residential construction processes.
* Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations.
* Ability to safely operate common construction hand and power tools.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to engage respectfully with diverse populations.
* Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with supervisor.
* Strong time management and reliability.
Additional Requirements
* Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
* Ability to pass background screening consistent with organizational policy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This role primarily works outdoors on active construction sites.
Employees in this position may be exposed to:
* Dirt, dust, debris, and construction materials
* Loud noises
* Fumes and odors
* Extreme temperatures and varying weather conditions
Physical Demands

This position regularly requires the ability to:
* Stand and walk for extended periods, often on uneven terrain.
* Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds (occasionally more with assistance).
* Climb ladders and stairs.
* Reach, bend, crawl, and carry materials.
Work in outdoor conditions year-round, including heat and cold.
