The Coordinator for Traditions and Events is a vital role within the Division of Student Affairs, focused on fostering school spirit, community engagement, and student leadership development. This position is responsible for events and programs that are integral to the student experience at the University of Pittsburgh.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in budget management and financial reporting.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
- A deep understanding of student development theories and best practices in student programming and leadership development.
Work Environment:
- This position may require evening and weekend hours in support of major campus events and programs.
The Coordinator for Traditions and Events will help oversee key hallmark events at the University of Pittsburgh that help bring a sense of belonging for students and alumni alike. These efforts offer opportunities to strengthen our community, focus on collaboration across departments, and help encourage innovation. Some of these events and celebrations include the Bonfire Celebration, Homecoming Activities, I Love Pitt Day, the Forge, and more. The Coordinator will also support and develop leadership programming.
Job Summary
Coordinates official events and other events in-person and virtually. Oversees vendors, event components, budget, and event marketing.
Essential Functions
Coordinates official events such as academic, community and/or stewardship-type ceremonies, receptions, and/or donor/friend recognitions and other events such as conferences, seminars, lectures, meetings, and reading groups both in-person and virtually.Oversees and coordinates University efforts and/or with external vendors for catering, police, audiovisual, facilities management, parking and transportation, risk management, budget accounting, photography, student leadership, volunteers, and outside service and material providers.Oversees guest list and invitation development, budget and report preparations, research, and design of event components.Assists sponsors with developing event budgets.Manages promotions, public relations, and marketing of events.
Physical Effort
Moderate physical effort required. May be required to stand/move for several hours at a time. May be required to move objects up to 50 pounds with or without assistance of equipment.
