POSITION SUMMARY

The Creative Arts Therapist participates as a member of the care team in planning, providing, and evaluating creative art therapy for the psychiatric patient to enhance the delivery of quality care.

The Creative Arts Therapist assesses, develops and plans art therapy activities for patient appropriate to the multidisciplinary plan of care. The Therapist plans activities at the patient's level of functioning and evaluates and documents the patient's response to the program. The Therapist integrates activities as part of the plan of care and collaborates with other members of the care team to enhance art activities.

This position delivers care in a prompt and professional manner, always maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and respect. The Therapist works as part of the care team to meet the needs of the customer and to support departmental objectives. The Therapist provides quality customer service, participates in performance improvement efforts and assumes responsibility for professional growth and development.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Creative Arts Therapy or Recreational Therapy required; Master's degree preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Appropriate license/certification in specific modality required. (Art, Music, Movement, Recreation, Dance). Heart Saver/CPR/AED/First Aide Certified required for out patient setting only within 6 months from date of hire. Annual education is tracked by department leadership.

EXPERIENCE: 2-4 years inpatient creative arts experience required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Demonstrates the competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards of the hospital environment, such as exposure to infectious disease, hazardous waste, and potential injury.

Position requires considerable standing, reaching and walking. Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

This position reports to the Clinical Leadership.
