Job Title: Crew Member, Pole Reinforcement Position Summary: The Pole Reinforcement Crew Member supports field operations by assisting in the installation of metal reinforcing brackets on wood utility poles. This role involves hands-on labor, use of tools and equipment, and working as part of a team to ensure structural integrity and safety of utility infrastructure. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the installation of metal reinforcing brackets, bands, and hardware on existing wood utility poles
- Perform manual labor tasks such as lifting, carrying, digging and moving materials as needed
- Assist in loading and unloading materials, tools or equipment at job sites or within facilities
- Handle, transport, and stage materials and tools at job sites
- Support pole preparation activities, including cleaning, measuring, and marking placement areas
- Operate basic hand tools, power tools and machinery under supervision as directed by crew leaders or supervisors
- Maintain awareness of safety procedures, including traffic, and electrical hazards
- Secure work zones by setting up barriers, removing debris and organizing materials and tools
- Follow instructions from crew leaders and supervisors to complete tasks efficiently
- Inspect materials and report any defects or issues
- Maintain inventory levels by conducting stock checks and reporting shortages or damages
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment on-site and in vehicles, ensuring they are free of hazards and clutter
- Follow safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment for oneself and others
- Report any and all safety hazards, incidents or injuries immediately
- Communicate effectively with all team members
- Assist in training others to complete tasks efficiently and meet project goals
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in general labor, construction, utility work, or outdoor labor preferred
- Good driving record and ability to obtain DOT driver qualification
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely
- Proven ability to perform assigned task at or above expected levels
- Demonstrated ability to train others in basic tasks
- Basic understanding of safety and protocols in a work environment
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
- Adaptability and willingness to learn new tasks or skills
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to perform fieldwork, proficient use of a shovel to excavate
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to travel a minimum of 75%.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing 50–75+ lbs on a frequent basis
- Capability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods, including digging, bending, kneeling, and climbing
- Sufficient strength, balance, and coordination to safely handle tools, equipment, and materials in uneven or outdoor terrain
- Ability to stand and walk for long durations throughout the workday
- Tolerance for working in various environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, humidity, wind, and rain
- Manual dexterity to operate hand tools, power tools, and small machinery safely and effectively
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, harnesses, and steel-toed boots
- Visual acuity sufficient to identify hazards, read measurements, and inspect materials
- Ability to understand, follow, and carry out verbal and written instructions accurately
- Strong attention to detail to ensure proper installation and adherence to safety standards
- Situational awareness to recognize and respond to potential hazards, including traffic and electrical risks
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- Problem-solving skills to address routine job-site challenges and adapt to changing conditions
- Dependability and accountability in completing assigned tasks safely and efficiently
- Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and team members
