Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4pm. Staff rotate working the CSA distribution umtil 6:30pm on Thursdays.
Job Summary
As a crew member on the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) project at the Horticulture Research Farm, you will be practicing sustainable agriculture in the context of a diversified, certified organic vegetable operation on 10 acres. This project engages with our community food systems in central Kentucky, and advances CSA as part of health & wellness initiatives.
CSA Farm Techs assist in all aspects of the daily farm operation, as directed by the CSA Manager and CSA Production Systems Manager. CSA Farm Techs are expected to demonstrate a positive attitude, manage time and energy in a fast-paced work environment, and have a sense of personal accountability and ownership over tasks assigned. The job requires an excellent work ethic, a willingness to learn, and ability to work and communicate effectively with a team.
Specific tasks may include:
•Field preparation, seeding and transplanting, cultivation, maintenance, harvest, and post-harvest handling of over 40 different crops.
•Rotate with other staff members in delivery of the share to campus or in staffing the farm pick-up on Thursday afternoons.
•Participate, as needed, in farm activities not directly related to the CSA (research projects, facilities management, tours, etc.)
•Some heavy lifting of up to 50lbs can be expected. Due to the nature of working outside, some days will require working in high heat or rain.
This job will be on-site at the Horticulture Research Farm’s Organic Farming Unit, located 4 miles from main campus. Candidate must provide own transportation. Workers primarily work outside.

This is a part-time position in April, and full-time in summer. Position may continue part-time into the fall semester up to Thanksgiving.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
