Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express.

How will you make an impact in this role?

As a Cybersecurity Engineer III within the Identity and Access Management (IAM) Architecture and Engineering team, you will contribute to the design, modernization, and engineering of enterprise-scale access management solutions deployed across on-prem and cloud environments.

You will play a key role in building and enhancing our Next Generation IAM Lifecycle Management (LCM) platform—ensuring it is secure, highly available, performant, observable, and aligned with the IAM organization’s multi-year strategy. This role requires strong hands-on engineering expertise and close collaboration with cybersecurity architects and fellow engineers to deliver seamless, secure access services across the enterprise while meeting rigorous compliance and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement reusable, scalable software components that enhance platform stability, reduce operational risk, and improve user experience. Contribute high-quality, maintainable code aligned with secure coding standards and enterprise best practices.

Develop secure, well-documented RESTful APIs that enable enterprise-wide adoption of IAM LCM services. Ensure APIs are performant, version-controlled, thoroughly tested, and compliant with internal security and governance standards.

Collaborate in analyzing requirements, designing solutions, developing features, and performing comprehensive testing across IAM LCM capabilities. Support deployments and provide ongoing improvements to ensure operational excellence.

Integrate monitoring, logging, and performance management tools to ensure proactive issue detection, platform health visibility, and SLA adherence.

Demonstrate strong team player qualities—proactive communication, accountability, and openness. Work effectively in cross-functional environments with architects, engineers, and security stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of hands-on software development experience, including design, development, testing, debugging, deployment, and support of large-scale, highly available enterprise applications.
  • 3+ years of experience with modern web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Next.js or similar frameworks), building responsive and secure user interfaces.
  • 3+ years of experience developing RESTful APIs with strong emphasis on secure coding practices, unit and integration testing, API documentation (Swagger/OpenAPI), and code quality and maintainability
  • Experience developing and deploying cloud-native applications using containerization technologies such as Docker and platforms such as OpenShift or similar Kubernetes-based environments.
  • Experience leveraging monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, ELK, or similar platforms for performance tuning and operational insight.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of key AI/ML concepts and frameworks and willingness to learn and experiment.
  • Demonstrate enough AI literacy to design, integrate with AI/ML powered features and tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of direct experience within the IAM domain, including lifecycle management, provisioning, authentication, and authorization.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and stream processing technologies such as Kafka or similar messaging systems.
  • Exposure to public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native design patterns.

Experience implementing reactive programming or event-driven microservices architectures.
