The Department Supervisor - Celebrations (Bakery, Floral & Non-Foods) leads store level execution of department sales and merchandising strategies by translating them into actionable plans that drive profitability and consistency across all stores. This role is responsible for establishing goals for department managers, clearly communicating expectations and holding teams accountable for delivering results. The supervisor partners closely with cross-functional teams to improve financial performance, remove barriers to execution and deliver outstanding customer experiences that support long-term, sustainable business growth.
How You'll Make an Impact
Driving Sales
- Identify opportunities to grow sales, reduce expenses, improve business processes and simplify the customer shopping experience.
- Prioritize high-impact initiatives ("needle movers") to ensure time and resources are focused on the most valuable tasks.
- Create impactful and compelling displays that drive incremental units, make products easy to find and partner with other departments on cross-merchandising opportunities.
- Ensure department conditions are in compliance with high quality standards.
Executing Operational Standards
- Demonstrate, support, and reinforce customer service standards.
- Communicate scheduling guidelines and assist in monitoring the effective use of labor.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies.
- Monitor product quality standards and specifications to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Plan, maintain, and participate in product sets and resets, including new or remodeled locations.
- Provide support for locations experiencing emergency situations (equipment failures, power outages, staffing issues).
- Support and implement company initiatives while applying strategic thinking and sound business judgment.
- Partner with Learning & Development to identify training needs and support staff development.
Managing Costs/Financials
- Monitor and analyze financial and operating results, including sales, labor, gross margin, shrink, inventory control, and operating expenses.
- Set clear financial targets, track progress, and hold the team accountable for results.
Leading & Influencing People
- Ensure successful training, coaching, and development of staff, with a focus on raising performance levels and developing future leaders.
- Partner with store and support teams to maintain positive associate relations and morale.
- Communicate staffing needs with leadership and HR.
- Provide leadership by setting clear direction, performance expectations, and long-term goals.
- Demonstrate strong conflict resolution, feedback, and problem-solving skills.
- Foster teamwork and collaboration across departments.
- Model professionalism, integrity, and company values while demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
About You
- Work Experience: Minimum 5 years' management experience in retail, consumer goods, or related industries.
- Operations Knowledge: Strong knowledge of retail/consumer goods operations, including product handling, merchandising, planning, and program implementation.
- Financial Knowledge: Ability to analyze results and develop strategies to improve sales and profitability through effective merchandising, labor management, shrink control, and expense controls.
- Leadership & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective teams, coach staff, and manage performance.
- Safety & Compliance: Knowledge of associate safety, food safety, and regulatory compliance standards.
- Business Analysis & Technology: Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook with the ability to learn business applications for data analysis and projections.
