Job Summary

The Department Administrator for Neurology provides leadership and oversight of the administrative and financial operations for the Department of Neurology. While the Neurology Administrator has primary responsibility for Neurology department activities, personnel, and budget, the two departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery have a shared administrative structure that employs both a team and service line approach to ensure the success of both.

The role of the Neurology administrator focuses on budget creation and variance reporting, faculty effort and productivity tracking, oversight of administrative personnel, business development, institutional compliance, financial and performance (KPI) oversight, and supporting the faculty and chair in the three missions of clinical care, medical education, and scientific research. Administrative oversight also includes reviewing, initiating or supporting the development of department policies and procedures as well as providing feedback on ambulatory, hospital and college of medicine policies and processes.

Financial management includes all financial and accounting processes for the departments –revenue/expense reporting, business projections and forecasts, monitoring expenditures, revenue cycle enhancement, budget variance analysis, salary allocation – as well as management of the financial relationships with internal and external partners.

The Department Administrator leads the department through the annual budgeting process, business development, and strategic planning in cooperation with the service line administrator, department chairs, and institutional leadership. The Department administrator reports directly to the Neuroscience service line administrator and works directly with the chairs of both Neurology and Neurosurgery to develop and advance their vision for the future of neurological care, research and instruction.

The Neurology Administrator role requires mature leadership, advanced financial ability, excellent communication skills, and commitment to a supportive, problem solving mindset. Hybrid work is allowable, but there is an expectation for significant in-person availability.
